I think a good point would be that it was an "accident" that could have easily been prevented. Numerous people would still be alive had the driver had the integrity to stand his ground. But, his company pressured him and he folded into making "just one more trip"..and for what ? .35 a mile ? I wonder if he still thinks it was worth it. That driver has to live with it for the rest of his life and I wonder if he sleeps at night, or if he even does..All because someone just couldn't say that magic word..NO

you should tell of all the time wasted waitting on disp do there job and haveing to send for info moore than once . and drivers haveing to send same info moore than once because disp is to sorry to read qualcomm and do there job time to go else where good luck chip
mje Thanks this. -
I will agree there are times dispatch seems to take their sweet time in giving a response. Some of the info you have to send twice is usually due to being handed of to another dispatcher on a different load board. A pain in the hind end yes, but if your patient and just send the info, AGAIN, it will benefit YOU in the long run.

...rather than start the standard "newbie" thread were i would would ask through an open cattle call "if anyone has company training/ teaching advice for company blah, blah, blah" I decided to tie into a long standing thread where there were good & bad comments concerning a company I am interested in - Crete Carrier. Crete is looking for drivers (recent driver school grads accepted as well) for a dedicated container fleet. These drivers will be running out of the Chester / Eddystone PA yard which is only 20 minutes from my house.
history: two weeks ago I submitted an application, cover letter, and resume to crete and today was contacted by a recruiter and was told that they would like for me to come out to Eddystone for a chat. the recruiter said that if the "chat" went well I would be invited to visit the yard at new kingston, PA for a professionl interview.
Well, my question is that since this thread is entitled "The decline of Crete carrier" is it in my best interest to pursue a training experience (up to 8 weeks) with a crete trainer or would it be better to 'train" with Roehl or Millis Transfer who seem to get better overall feedback regarding their respective training programs?mje Thanks this. -

I will have to second JD here. I am a national driver but I have picked up at the port here and it went pretty smooth. Crete's pay is likely much better than most other companies that you will find to work for.

As a new member here, and a 10 year veteran of Crete, I will say that in the past few years I have seen a downward trend in attitudes toward drivers. It is not the same company it was when I started. However we all know the economy has caused all of us (companies included) to tighten up on alot of things. Many of the things just happen to be beneficial to drivers, but not necessary. I can't say I am totally happy with Crete as it currently is run, but after talking to drivers from other companies I feel that I am still better off with Crete, than I would be with many other companies. Yes, average trip length has declined, and my average week has dropped a bit too. But I am still making $0.06 to $0.10 per mile more than many other drivers who have the same experience level.
Bottom line is, no company is going to make you happy all the time, and different people will have differing ideas on what a company is like. I am happy more often than not with Crete and look to remain with them for the foreseeable future.mje Thanks this. -
I've been with Crete for about 5 years now and am still happy. When I started with Crete I'd been out of trucking for a couple of years and had to go thru some training and ride with a trainer for up to 6 weeks. I wasn't real happy about that cause training problems in the past. But to my surrpise it was REAL training not "team training" crap.
I have my own little niche ( a fleet of 1 truck ) and I keep the shipper happy and Crete is happy with me.
I rarely get to talk with other Crete driver's but when I did the "can" hauler seemed happy ( I saw him at New Kingstown)
Different drivers look for different things in a company so not every one would be happy at the same Co.
Crete is a stickler on logs, you don't just make it look legal you drive it legal.

Just remember, at Crete Carriers there are no shortcuts to Tonn getting his new Mercedes.....
