As an experienced intermodal driver, I can say that a rail load takes 3-4 days from pick to delivery traveling on rail from LA to Chicago. Going to the east coast takes another 2 days.

If the same load was given to a team, they can get that load from LA to Chicago in two days but at a much higher cost, a solo driver would take 4 days, which would still be at a higher cost than by rail. In most cases, shipping by rail makes sense economically.

The "trip" might take 3-4 days, but getting the container to, and from the rail car to the truck is another matter, another day or two usually, times like around the holidays probably longer. Dockplate to dockplate is another story.

Dwindling rail capacity will cause those rates to rise in a hurry now.

I still believe rail is still better for the environment and more efficient.

the problem is not that i am reading 2-3 books a week nor that I rummage through TTR as if it were a well paying job. The problems are that I do not always understand and sometimes do not remember what I read or write.

The problem here is that I posted that my cdl teacher said that Crete would be a good fit because they run vans out of Eddystone, Pa. Drivers are home weekly and could be home once during the week.

only problem, and I have posted this fact before, the SAGE school I attended .is not Crete certified.. So how does that sort out in the wash?

So that explains why CSX has so many commercial's running on TV lately. Of coarse being one of the two largest RR's in the U.S. The have a bit of a bad rep. Bad enough that former employee's created a website called CSX-Sucks dot com which ended up in a law suit and to say the least CSX lost as well as lost time and money and the website remains. Its more efficient without a doubt but not everybody can work for the RR. Its a difficult job to get. I gave up after I applied with KCS numerous times but still wish to work there even after being turned down so many times.

They used to just have a one day pre screening at a local terminal, just the basic physical screen and background, assign a truck - then schedule the full "orientation" later at the home terminal and route you there.

Not sure if they still do that.
