How do we get to your site? Also, if Crete is only a little better than the others, what would you say are Crete's biggest faults or anything you don't like about their system? Thanks

Whats the difference? The freight bill is still the same. If it needs to get from Maine to southern Cal its the same miles regardless. Now if one carrier doesn't have operations out west then maybe they want to transfer since they don't have freight to get that driver to where the freight flow is.

Crete is not a good company,
I started with Crete in February 2012. I was told that I would start at .42cpm and I did. Because I live in Socal, I had to do my pre-hire in Phoenix The pre-hire wasn't orientation and after 3 days in Phoenix. They flew me out to the Georgia Terminal to pick up my truck. Once there, My truck wouldn't start and they had to charged the batteries. The pulley and belts had to be replaced on the truck also. I was there for 5 days waiting for them to fix my truck and it was still filthy from the previous driver. Before I got to my truck in Georgia, they told me to pack light for my flight. I only brought one bag and a carry-on bag with me on the flight cause Crete told me they would get me right back but to make sure I had enough clothes for 5 days. 3 1/2 weeks later, I'm at the Tennessee terminal for Orientation and still not back to Phoenix where all my stuff is at.
They finally got me back to Phoenix to pick up the rest of my stuff and then they sent me out on the road. Once I got into Pennsylvania for a delivery, they wanted me to take the sleep apnea test...I'm about 40 lbs over=weight. (IF THEY ASK YOU TO TAKE THE SLEEP APNEA TEST, DON'T DO IT!!!!) They finally got me into the New Kingstown,Pa. terminal. They Put me in a position where if I didn't take the test, then they would part ways with me right there in Pa. So under protest I took the test cause I didn't want to be abandoned 2600 miles from home and "what do you know?" I failed it. They said that I had sleep apnea and that I would have to buy their machine for $900.00 plus $200.00 for a 400 watt Cat inverter. ($40 at pilot) Once you take the test and fail it, you are subject to a DOT physical every year no matter what company you go to from Crete. Also if you do not have the enforcer lock, trailer lock and kingpin lock you have to pay for this $175.00... So right away, I owe them $1275.00. I had already been on the road for a month before I had to take the test but most drivers will have to take the sleep apnea test at orientation. So immediately, you will owe them $1275.00. After 2 weeks the velcro straps for the mouth piece that I have to wear, wore out. By the time I was able to get to the terminal to replace it, 31 days had pass.
They have a sleep apnea rep( not a Crete employee) with her own office at the New Kingstown,Pa. terminal. She told me that I had 30 days to return the mask w/strap. and because it was 1 day past the 30 day limit. I would have to buy another mask for $200. The straps don't come separately with them. I refused to buy for $200 so I had to duct tape the velcro straps together.
Once you're diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, you have to wear it even on your home time for at least 4 hours a day but Crete wants you to wear it at least 6 hours. You have to put this mask tight on your face so it doesn't leak and it leaves an indentation on your face every time.
I was injured on the job on May 10th, 2012 and was out of work for 1 1/2 months doing physical therapy. I was released back to work on June 25th. At that time, I didn't know that I had to wear the sleep apnea machine(cpap) at home and I didn't wear it when I was out on workers comp. When I was released to go back to work. They told me that I had to take another physical and I did. Then they told me that I had to be compliant on the sleep apnea machine for 14 days and they sent me home. Well, June 30th (five days after they sent me home to be compliant) they automatically terminated me for being off of work for 30 continues days. When I came back to work after being compliant for 14 days is when they told me. The recruiter supervisor Craig told me that He can resubmit my application but I would have to go and take another physical and my hire date would start over. So I did. Two physicals in 14 days. Then they told me there was a non-moving violation on my MVR that I didn't tell them about in the initial hiring at orientation so because of that, they wouldn't hire me back.....I felt mislead for having to take 2 physicals. I now have to wear this sleep apnea machine, even tho I don't have a job.If I do get a job, it will show on my DAC report that I have sleep apnea and I will have to be compliant before any company will hire me.
I was told by other drivers that the owners wife started the Non-DOT required testing and that she makes a profit off of it. I don't know if that's true, sounds like heresay but I suspect it's true since they invested in a couple sleep apnea trailers and have a rep with her own private office at their terminal.....
If you're not overweight, they won't ask you to take the test but if you are, 80% of the over weight drivers are diagnosed with sleep apnea with Crete....
That really is my only problem with Crete....They trapped me in Pa. to take the sleep apnea test and if I didn't, I had to find my way back to california with all my equipment. Much more then I can take on a plane, train or even bus....Last edited: Jul 25, 2012

spent 7 yrs with ccc in late 90's to early 2000's...you are right...a lot depends on the driver and what he puts in and what he expects back. at my time with ccc they were the very best of the truckload carriers and probably still are. even in the 90's everyone was complaining about tonn...guess they still are. as i read all of the remarks by the gripers and groaners i'll remind new drivers to industry...otr trucking is no #### pinic and if you expect it to be , stay home...you won't make it. jd keep the wheels turning and if you are still a triple c driver, good for you and continued success there. if i was to go back otr, ccc would be my first call.
mje and franktaylor Thank this. -
@ Sargetom,
Well, from what I hear, Crete used to be a good company to work for back then, but not so much now!
I'm at Ruan now and got to say, I like it soooo much better here.mje Thanks this. -
it seems the times they are a changin... ccc is probably still best of trkld carriers, but what is that saying now...simply it is a changing industry....not always best for drivers...
mje Thanks this.
