The Problem with these blue states is that they believe that prosperity comes from taxing the Jesus out of everyone. And as the baby boomers stare directly into the face of fixed income, retiree status. The tax burden must be placed squarely on the shoulders of small business and their employees. You know the people who actually work, and compete for bottom line profits and produce something. Big business gets legislation to protect their interests, property tax exemptions for years, and political favor in exchange for kickbacks. And then they get Unions... ha ha! May we all be a big business, someday!!!! The point is, that you can change tactics, prices, and operations in seconds, they can't. You can use your connections in Ohio to work for you. (I'm assuming you are from there, and you both have family close.) Some folks, friends, that you already know, are in positions to influence decisions on contracting to you. That's what anyone gets with home field advantage. Start thinking like a Trump. Network, network, network, hell, start a CDL school, they'll pay you, to drive. I live in down state Illinois and we always get the shaft, and they hand out our money in Chicago like candy. So I know what you are feeling. All the work this year was in Federally funded road projects. Watch who and where the municipalities are getting their materials from, like salt and sand? with their budgets getting tighter, capital expenditures take a huge chunk of choices away from them, so you might be able to convince someone that, it's time to outsource some of the hauling. You know the deal, it's just like buying a house. Once it's on the market it's already too late to make a good deal. Treat this super valuable slow time as an opportunity to sell and research, and plan on making 2008 your biggest year yet. One more thing with all the new creative projects and contracts in hand, borrowing money is getting cheaper by the day. Maybe time for some new equipment.? Oh and that moving thing... I did that and man what a nightmare to start over with zero connections. Some other suggestions off the top of my head: Shop for new insurance, find out the details.. is it cheaper to drop a vehicle off or add one to meet different policy parameters? Sell the business the your honey, then start applying for the grants. Talk to the railroad company in your area, about their needs? Landscaping companies, Schools, blacktop companies, landfills. I worked for a union concrete company for the 4th seasonal year in a row, and this year we had 3 companies hauling bulk materials with us all year. They weren't union or even from the same town but they had dropped off a card and a hand shake at the headquarters. and we needed them this year. So many opportunities.. turn off the tv for a month and see how your attitude changes. anyway good luck, You CAN do it. and still be around family.

well, one thing about it, if you live in
Michigan, your driving truck, or out of work, most likely, it is reallybadhere, and ourgovernor, just keeps taxing us right out of site. got my land taxes today, they went up , way up. I wish that woman would go back to Canada, and screw them up, cause she has done a fine job of it here, for sure.
hubby went toOTRdriving, other wise, we wouldn't be eating, or have a home, or any thing else. -
Michigan is the TOP State for the highest unemployment rate in the US country. I feel for you I really do. I am close to a female lady here in oho who owns an Environmental company and she's 67, going through the process of bankruptcy as we speak. 7 Rental homes and 5 TRUCKS.
She's loosing it all except her apartment building...
REALLY BAD...........
