I don't think it's as little as you might believe. It might be in Idaho or Wyoming, but not down in Florida and other parts of the country. There are cattle grazing on land next to all manners of farms across the country that grow all kinds of different crops. Farming is becoming viable in more areas due to improved genetics programs and more efficient cultivation methods. Grapes, as an example, are being grown all over the country in areas where previous generations would have called it impossible. While some farmers cry about water, others are incorporating practices like dust mulching. Universities are developing varieties that can be grown in more extreme climates.

Florida produces the most cattle in this country, and they still don’t do it where other crops are possible. I hauled a lot of calves back to OK, KS, and TX for Deseret Cattle and Citrus, and the cattle part was where the cities part wasn’t feasible. They round up their cattle with helicopters and air boats because it’s a swamp.

Cattle can be grazed on a tall grass prairie and when it’s done responsibly they are part of who ecosystem and not a detriment to it. What would happen to a biodiverse ecosystem once you start taking parts and pieces of it away to grow plants to be manufactured into something that’s trying to resemble what’s already growing on that land?

Couple of pics from back around 2016 or so. These poor tortured animals, treated so poorly they’d eat cake from your hand. This is what most of the land looks like where I grew up, not exactly ideal for farming. Water consists of stock ponds or paying for it from a metered line off the rural water pipeline.

Most of the cattle in Florida is not raised in the swamp. It is grown right next to orange groves, sugar cane fields, tomato farms, palm farms, sod farms, and even next to businesses in the city limits. If you took them off of that land, you could grow a number of different crops there. That whole area around Okeechobee would be great for other crops, but that sounds like blasphemy to the people living there.

As far as the happy cow pictures, it doesn't make it right. There are people in abusive relationships who appear happy to stay in them. You probably could've found slaves who were happy enough to work on the master's plantation, much like someone in jail who gets institutionalized. There are also plenty of times where the cows just don't want to comply, where they're not so happy to be separated from their family. If it was all sunshine and roses, the whip and cattle prod would've never been invented. No amount of happy pictures changes the end result, that they are going to be killed. We don't apply the same standards for compassion towards people. Whether they're dying of a terminal illness, or they've outlived their usefulness, euthanasia is not legal in our society. We're not that much different from animals. They seem to feel emotions just like we do. If intelligence is the metric we use to determine who deserves to live or die, what happens when humans fall below that standard?

What happened to the guys that cut and delivered ice or coal …….? People can eat meat if they want . Takes a lot more resources to feed people meat that vegetables…..

And ev’s are going to kill ethanol anyways.
I just disagreed with the premise that I choose to eat fake meat because it’s cheaper…… that not even a consideration for me……

“to serve man” has everything to do with this . A more advanced species thinking we were put in the universe by their god to feed them. An interesting thought……..

Odd that this is the second time EV’s have been brought up in this thread where cattle and slavery have also been referenced. May I suggest reading Cobalt Red, it talks about modern day child labor and slavery in the Congo to get the minerals required for the batteries of those precious EV’s.

Oh, I didn’t realized you’ve been out and loaded at the different pens for Deseret. I wrongly assumed that you were only speaking of the land you can see from the highway.

Wonder what other trigger words they will use? Maybe farms can be sexist too. I mean after all they do kill more males than females. Equal rights for animals. # moo too.

Cattle weren’t roaming the plains like the bison. They were domesticated for milk and meat production over 10000 years ago. Some estimate that there were roughly 80 of them that were originally domesticated. Even if all the fences were gone they’d likely stay close to where they currently are. They have food and water, they wouldn’t wander very far before going back to their last known water source.
