    had a funny one.

Last stop of my multi day run, it's a 24 hour restaurant in a truckstop (yeah, figure it out) and it's pretty darn busy. I roll in (early, cuz well I'm awesome) and the manager comes out and says "we need this and this and this and this". Ok, lemme see what i can dig out. Some I get, some I can't get to (even cutting the boxes open) and some (of course) are on the very bottom of a bad pallet.

and this place you have to do the dry first, then the cooler, and only then the freezer, as you put the freezer down the walkway and there is no more access for the dry and cooler. And of course, most of the stuff she needs right away (and she's nice enough, it's not a big deal I try and help out) is in the freezer. So I'm hammering out the dry and she says to the guy who's counting it in. "go help him, get the other 2 wheeler and start wheeling it in". Now this guy always counts me in and he's good at it. but it's really a 1 hour break for him, sits there with his clipboard and his cigarette and watches me hump it in.

So he loads up one two wheeler (in the time I've already wheeled in two) and wheels it in. he comes back out and I load him up and this continues for like 3 trips until we're basically to the freezer pallets.

He looks at me and says (totally out of breath) "you do this all day????"

    BTW, he's half my age.

so what happens in this case? Do you lose the bid until he comes back? Or do they just replace him with an extra board guy for the 3 weeks he's out?

so, you don't lose the route then? and this is a good thing (except you lost your partner) right?
of course, now you are the only one who knows what is going on.

Well I may be joining the food service industry soon. Decided to move on from my current local company, pays pretty decent, but no bennies, no sick pay, no holiday pay(which i usually work), no PTO, OK Vacation, 401k, and insurance though. I delivered to GSF-Golden State Foods, ( not GFS) about 2 weeks ago(theyre the ones who deliver to McDonalds) and asked the receiving clerk about the driving positions avaialable. Well apparently the HR Supervisor happened to be in the receiving office at the time and she told me all about the position, gave me all her info, and everything like that. Well after 2 weeks of pondering it over, I get a load this morning to deliver there again, so I take that as a sign to go ahead and put the app in. Well she called me later in the afternoon, asked me a couple of questions, said I needed to drop off a copy of my MVR and we will go from there.

Seems like a pretty good gig. Paid by the hour, union, so got OT over 8/40 (my 70 hrs per week at my current job is all straight). and some good bennies. seems like the kind of place to retire from.

Although it is foodservice, it might not be half as grueling as what yall go thru. From what a driver was telling me, all you do is use a electric pallet jack and roll it into the store and leave it from there. Not quite sure if you have to break the pallet down or not, or if the store employees do that. But even if you do, it still is easier than hand carting it down im sure.

Im looking forward to a change of pace. Right now I work local for a mega. some days are good, some are just boring, some are busy as all get out. I am nervous to switch jobs though, ill say that much. I get OK hourly rate right now, but I bust my butt and max my 70 in 5 days. Maybe change is a good thing, right? :biggrin_255:

At GFS our fleet of trailers is all Thermo King nothing else. We've got Great Dane 28's with Thermo King dual zone refers. The Thermo King Spectrum Series refers. They seem to work pretty good.

I work at GFS we don't get to use lift gates or pallet jacks, were old school ha-ha! Yeah you know I figured McDonald's deliveries might not be half bad. Anderson Duboise here in Cleveland there warehouse is way far away from me in Youngstown, so there not really on my radar, but I would consider McDonald's deliveries it's probably not bad at all. The McDonald's suppliers drive pretty nice trucks and everything.
