That's one of our spare trucks. In 2006 Gordon's decided to buy from International because they were having a business disagreement with Volvo. Gordon's took delivery of some of there Internationals and quickly realized they didn't much care for International. They then cancelled there PO with International, but they already had taken delivery of half the trucks they were supposed to buy.
Those trucks were transit and route trucks sure, but eventually got knocked all the way down to "spare" status. The Volvo's are the main bread and butter trucks the Internationals are spares and they keep saying after this year there selling them all out of the fleet, but will see. I think GFS still has some Sterlings around too, however those are now pretty rare in numbers, the fleet managers hated the Sterlings and the drivers didn't care for them either although I guess they did have Cummins Turbo Diesels in them and that was about there only redeeming quality.
One of our regular Volvo's went in for a regular service. They sent that beauty in it's place. The thing about spare trucks is they have to work it's not much of a spare if it doesn't work. That truck got to our yard and the fuel pump was pumping way way way to much fuel into the motor. Then the motor was rejecting the fuel and pushing it back into the fuel tank. This caused a huge amount of back pressure in the fuel lines and tank and pretty much busted a line or cap or something and the truck vomited diesel fuel all over our yard.
When I was getting ready to leave today and actually I didn't have a hard day today that truck was parked off to the side and the bosses and our a transit driver were out in the yard throwing down kitty litter and oil dry and then when I got back the tow truck was there hooking up to that truck to take it away. Thank god, my truck isn't due for a PM or anything and has been running real good although were throwing miles on it like crazy.truck_guy Thanks this. -
Mbm subcontracted out its jack in the box account to jb hunt. $12 a stop and .40 cents a mile lmao, basically you'll make a third of a regular food service guy. Also you get to fuel the tractor/reefer and unload pallets everyday for free.

they were always short drivers at the denver terminal (still are from what i see) and i would see JB Hunt guys running occasional ones or staffmark temp guys. Like you said making half or a third of normal guys.
and I still see them subbing out shuttles (to SLC or Phoenix for local domicile drivers to deliver) to O/O's (or small firms) that from what i hear make BANK. -
Hey lonecowboy, a staffing agency (road dog) is hiring for a local mbm position, pays $19 an hr with ot after 8 and double time after 12. They said it's a temp to hire/permanent position. I would apply directly to mbm but don't see that location as hiring on their website, do you think it's legit? I did the drug test and was told I'd be contacted next week for an mbm guy to road test me. What's the road test consist of? Also the last thing I'd want is to get hired on as a temp and not be able to get hired on full time eventually by mbm as that's the goal. Thanks

They did hire some temp guys as I was leaving, and they did make OT after 40 (which was the only thing that made it worthwhile for them IMO). But they were stuck for like 3 to 6 months with the temp agency.
every MBM terminal is different, but the road test on ours was hook up (tug test), drive around, probably 40 minutes, come back, back in, unhook. It was pretty much like all road tests. Don't screw up and we'll hire you.

Dang 40 minutes is a long road test, not that I mind it. Sysco and jbhunt just make you hop on the freeway and hop right off. They told me it'd be a 6 day work week and to expect to utilize my 70 and recap. This account is for carls jr and it's supposedly electric pallet jack so I'm pretty excited and looking forward to it

You've got to love it when a customer places a good sized order and your company's sales rep forgets to enter it into the system. And everyone is unaware of this until the customer calls asking where their order is. Receptionist starts to panic, ponders calling the boss(which she finally does), boss's screams can be heard through the phone, order gets pulled, put on truck and only thing missing is a driver, and just as I'm about to leave for the day I get asked to run the order up to Kalamazoo, which I do and crisis averted.
What should've been a six hour day turned into twelve hours.
Also two half gallons of heavy cream make one hell of a mess when they spill. Floor drains are a good thing to have. -
I did Carl's Jr and they are all roll in. We had electric pallet jacks, but that just gets the pallet to the door and then you unload via two wheeler from there. Honestly went pretty fast, I liked most CJ's. Only like 3 styles, you could tell where everything went. Although their freezer doors were always small.
Yeah, MBM will run you to death. You can either save your hours or let them run to force some time off (sorry, out of hours, can't help ya)
