I'm gonna have to go to days for 3 weeks pretty soon, to train at some other racks. Not looking forward to it. I'm a night guy, and for me, the night goes by fast. There's something about not seeing the sun change position in the sky, relative to the hours getting later and later, that helps me lose all sense of time, and the hours just kind of blend into each other as if it is just one experience. Gonna be pulling out of San Jose, what a joy this will be.
Miguel562 Thanks this. -
I'm 100% on the same page as you all with the night shift. Life is so much smoother on night shift if you know how to make it work for you. I tried day shift out for a while, just not for me. Felt groggy as hell when I started, then you get thrown into big city rush hour, and it takes you 3 hours to do a station that's 5 miles from the rack. I could log about 3x lunch breaks a day just off of delays. And I get paid by the load so that was unacceptable. Now I clock in at 5pm, completely ready to work when I start. No lines at the racks. Only traffic I deal with is the last bit of the evening rush. I do more work in less time and I get a bonus for working night shift. Then once you get done with work you get to drive back to the house with no one on the roadways. It's awesome!
...... And who doesn't love chatting with the local hobos at 2am??!! -
Man all you you guys are just convincing me to do nights. I worked nights for years... and now have the opportunity to do nights. This will be my second day with United. I don't know but I'm leaning to nights...

#### dude. I start at 2pm and am bumper to bumper on the 405 until about 830.
For us, the worst is those first out valley loads out of LAT. From the valley to LAT is about 2 hours. That gets you there at 4pm which is when sentinel breaks shift so you have all those guys hogging the rack
then hopefully you're out of there by 4:30 or 5 and then another 2 hours to get back to the valley. By the time you're unloaded it's like 7-8pm and you still have traffic going back down to pick up your 2nd load.
Woodys Thanks this.
