Another approach, and the one I'm considering is to work yourself out of a job. In short you expand your business to the point others do the work and you oversee the operation. At this point you have a business that lives on beyond you. Places like Landstar just want well maintained equipment. Many of the places that have age limits on tractors also have their own lease/purchase deals. Anyone see a conflict of interest here? I think Roehl wants units less than ten years old, but will consider older if well maintained.

The biggest issue with landstar are the brokers. Many good loads never see the boards. They are given to the drivers the brokers have a good relationship with. If you are a new guy with landstar this can make it harder. On SNI's load board there is no brokers getting the freight first. Much easier to make better money if your new. PLus SNI has a much larger freight base than landstar. I was ready to go to landstar from Roehl but a buddy really convinced me to try SNI and thier choice board and I am very happy with them.

Yea I will be honest with ya if and when I leave it will be an o/o company. I'm not gonna compete with company drivers for freight if I'm getting paid percentage.

It would not be hard to make more CPM than what you do at Roehl. I remember I used to make $1.70 mile back in 2006. I guess that they have a decent lease plan, but either way, I am going to stay a company driver. I just don't need the headache.

Thanks bud, ya I've been weighing my options and doing my homework, plus ls has a lot of decent freight leaving my hometown. Does sni have an age restriction on tractors? I just always assumed they did.

Okay, I've read most of this thread but I have a couple of questions anyway.

Would you suggest leasing from Roehl after everything is considered? Can you request a new truck?
