This little discussion is showing that there are some inescapable fundamentals to starting and running a business. Anyone thinking of becoming an owner/operator should read through this entire thread and you should take what you read to heart. First get some experience so that you know how the trucking industry works. Put together a business plan and budget. Then you will know how much truck you can afford. Look at your credit and your funds, take your time and find the truck that is right for you.

As far as your future you have different options. You can be a single truck operation or you can grow to multiple trucks. Each has advantages and disadvantages and the decision is yours based on your personal and financial goals.

Well the truck broke down at the LA/TX welcome center on I-20. Managed to limp there going 35 mph last night.

Seems I may have blew the EGR Cooler, Lost all Pulling power, Loud engine noises and Billowing white smoke like nothing I have seen before LOL.. I checked all the usual oil for diesel, air lines to turbo, checked the fins on the turbo, all good. So It almost has to be a EGR issue or maybe dropped a injector. which I hope not cause i ran dang near 20 miles to a stopping point with it doing that, i knew the egr was getting bad with the weird "backfiring" thing it would do when pulling a heavy load up a hill.

Got up this morning and got down to a Freightliner luckily only 8 miles from where I was, waiting there to find out what it is and get it fixed. Part that sucks the most is I was under my load taking me home and NEEDED to be home for the 20th to sign papers on a house. Not sure if thats gonna happen now cause they have to relay this load off me and then once I'm fixed get something going to ATL.. Lovely Lovely!!

Keep us posted it sounds like the egr man the vpod just makes the turbo not work, no strange noises or smoke at all. Hope yours is still under warranty

I am really surprised no one has commented about the new fuel "discount" program. I know in my operation it will cost me $200 to $400 dollars a month in additional fuel cost. Honestly with the lack of miles and and now only giving us a pittance for a fuel discount I may not be able to stay at Roehl. Of course this is a good deal for Roehl since they will get to keep up to $.27 a gallon on fuel they didn't purchase.

It is pure bs we all know they are getting way more per gallon off than what they are giving us. Heck we could get a bigger discount by just paying cash lol
