From what i have read it is pretty hard for a USA driver to get on in the canada ice roads. but you might check with the ones in alaska they are in the USA.and it may be easer.

From what I have heard Canadian company's will not hire drivers from out of the country,...And if you really want to drive in Alaska you had better be standing outside the office in Alaska when they need a driver,...It's a lot of money and time to go up there to sit and wait for a job,...BUT if you can get on the money can be well worth it,...

I've been watching 'Ice road truckers' on the History Channel, and some of those drivers don't impress me. A couple of them were newbies last season, yet, they were cut loose out there with no experience. I love it when they use their 'Jake' on the ice, the producers speed up the film so it looks like their doing 60 mph, and it shows -40 on the screen and the drivers are walking around in tee shirts and driving with their windows down. :biggrin_2554:

I like to watch the show, but the comedy of non reality shown on the made for TV show gets a little thick at times.

how do you know the producers speed up the film? anyway...you'd better not go drive there without knowing how to drive in the winter. :)

Search for transport companies in the areas you're looking at. The Canadian ones seem to not only hire Canadian drivers first, but "locals" (northern Canada vs southern) before all. I looked into Carlile (current Ice Road Truckers company) and they wanted a minimum of 2 years verifiable winter & mountain driving to hire and had no guarantee of assignment to the Haul Road(s).

I'll just bet they have more apps than they know what to do with right now.

I'd be happy starting out with them running from the lower 48 up to their drop yard in Anchorage.

I agree with you, Brickman; I'm sure apps are through the roof, and pay is in the basement (comparatively) since the tv shows.

I got a good laugh when the Carlile HR guy was saying they had a driver shortage in one of the first episodes this season. Within 5 minutes of that airing, I bet the shortage became a surplus.
