Al actually doesn't own any of the trucks... we all work for Bob Quiring, who has owned the business since Elmer Quiring (the founder) sold it to him in 1994. We have the Tri-Drive that Al drives, the new Tandem that Gord drives, a single-axle that Carrington (Al's son) drives, a brand new tandem deck that Bob drives, and a new single axle deck that I drive. We do have our share of broken equipment, we just know how to keep it off television. ;)

It works differently here. We have a rotation, which is 2 weeks on, then rotates though other companies in the area (as an example, us at Quiring have 2 weeks on, then 4 weeks off). The RCMP who handle the rotation schedule don't care how many shell companies a company has, they only get to be on the list once. Companies have actually been completely removed from the rotation for trying to sneak a second space... I won't name the company, but they have been mentioned quite frequently through this thread. Highway 5 (The Coquihalla) also has something called Protocol, which was brought into place by the Ministry Of Transport to help handle the issues that arise during heavy snowfall. When this kicks in, extra manpower is called in for VSA to run plows, loaders, and patrols... RCMP and CVSE are called in to monitor the highway for issues such as a lack of chains, or idiot drivers... and we (Quiring) are called in to sit on standby on the hill in case of spinouts. This runs independent of Rotation, as we are there on the direct request of MOT and the Highway Contractor, and not on behalf of poaching calls or just to handle MVAs.
This is the media playing into the crocodile tears. Those companies that were brought in for his "gold mine" and are just there for the Winter are companies who towed that area before the Davis family even moved into the Valley... let alone JDMT starting up in Hope. Mission has been towing that area since 1954, Quiring has been towing there since 1962, Hope Towing for decades, Mario's Towing (where Adam Gazzola and Ken Monkhouse are now working, btw) for 30 years... The Davis family moved here in 1978, and didn't start Aggressive Towing until much later (Jamie didn't split off and start his own company in Hope until the 2000's... long after other established companies had been working that highway. One could almost suggest that he tried moving into everyone else's "gold mine"... especially if his venture to Alberta was any indicator.
Yeah... that page is long past time for an update. I've started converting some of our OLD recoveries to digital media (from the old VHS), and will see what I can do about firing that Page back up with some new content.

I appreciate your candor and inside view of things. I didn't know your MOT and other agencies did such a good job of keeping the shell companies from having spots on the list, wish my home state of Pennsylvania would do that.

The 2 weeks on, 4 weeks off rotation must be brutal and make it hard to retain good talent. I was in Albuquerque, NM for a few years and we did 1 week on with 8-10 off depending which sector of the city you were in. It was very difficult to maintain an appropriate staffing level and keep the staff happy, well paid and motivated during the off rotation weeks.

As for the tv portrayal of Mr. Davis, well that is what the producers think makes for good entertainment. I figured some of it was hype although he plays the part well when making industry apperances down here in the states.

Thanks again and stay safe up there.

The fact that we are so busy to begin with helps a lot... if we were dependant just on Police Rotation, the company would never have survived 55 years. As the officer in charge of the rotation has said to us on several occasions, if a company being on rotation makes or breaks a company, then they are in the wrong line of work.

The show is your typical reality television scenario... a lot of fake drama, a lot of fake tears, a lot of fabricated situations (the wrecks and recoveries are always real... but what happens outside of those shots, and even some of the crap that happens at those scenes, could fall under "pre-planned"), and a lot of time spent travelling the continent doing the trade show circuit instead of in a truck working, then complaining that the company isn't producing enough money and layoffs have to happen.
But what do I know... this company has never had to lay anyone off. ;)

Hello, I am wondering if anyone can help me with my question. A little info on myself. I am a driver for a repo agent and work for the repo agent, not for his boss, the actual owner of the company. The owner of the company pays his repo agent a separate drivers pay (for me) with a personal check, so he doesn't get taxed on it. Then the repo agent pays me under the table. This is just one of my concerns. My main concern is that the owner of the company makes us go on out of town repo runs that take longer than 24 hours straight to complete. The only time we stop is to use the restroom, while we are picking up a repo and refueling. Isn't there any kind of DOT laws that he is violating? We are based out of Wichita, KS. There was also one time, after being out for approx. 26 hours, I was dog tired driving a vehicle back to the lot. I know my judgement and senses were impaired do to lack of sleep and I ended up damaging a vehicle. Is there anything that saves me in this situation?
