IMO..I will NEVER have drivers again...Not a chnce...Just me and my truck and my $85,000 bring home is all i need anymore...For a few extra bucks that i made from hiring on other drivers,it was not worth the ''stress''...:biggrin_25513:I ended up losing money, sleep and years off my life..

Guys sold my fuel for CASH.Called road call to put on a wiper on the NJ Turnpike.I found GAY PORN in the truck as well as ''needles''...I reported one guy to the police because i found kiddy porn pics in his truck while working on it.One guy left 21 piss bottles in the truck..I even found bags of crap...:biggrin_2554:

I will stop there.I could go on and on...Once i lost the 2 old timers that were excellent people and drivers,i was never able to replace them with the ''new'' driver mentality...I tossed in the towel and sold the 2 trucks i had....

My 2 cents..... Did you give the driver a clear standing order to drop the trailer in the locked yard? Or is it assumed common knowledge that this is something he should do?

If you did have the order in place: The freight deductible AND trailer deductible belong to him.....pay up or be gone.

If you did not...........well..........fair is fair. Same with tires and mirror.

I got fed up with that mirror and tire crap a few years ago. We had a guy that would go through a tire a month (always on trailer). Pretty obvious to me that he considered it someone else's job to check tire pressures. Same guy got put OOS for a leaky wheel seal on his truck and wanted to be paid for the 7 hours it took to get it fixed. I said no and he quit.

When we hired the new guy he wrecked an trans and a diff in two weeks so I started a bonus program...$50 for every clean inspection and a $25 bonus every pay period if nothing bad happens and $.02/mile annual bonus for no accidents. Amazing how that little reward has changed things. Now he drives the equipment like he owns it. He broke a power mirror and paid for it himself....didn't even tell me but the parts guy at the KW dealer told me.

My company does the same thing$50.00 bonus for clean inspections. When the 72 hr inspection starts drivers are receiving $100.00 for clean inspections those 3 days. Also my company now takes $25.00 for every violation or speeding cant remember which one but it to be working..Problem with drivers is they just don't care, its not their equipment is their way of thinking but forget about the csa that affects the drivers as well as the company.

Did you ever issue or give a 5th wheel lock to the driver? - Ever talk about it?

I never leave any trailer unattended when I have a load on it I am responsible for...
But for the times I do need to leave my trailer, I have a WAR LOK 5th wheel lock on it.
Those things are virtually indestructible and can be had for around $75.

This is sad...just more crap to deal with when it comes to the never ending supply of idiots.

My first wife (I am widowed) got her son (my stepson) to drive a truck that she had bought against my advice. He worked for her for a while then he just got out of and walked off. He didn't even bother to tell her what he had done. Also, every time he goes through a certain city in Texas, can't remember the city, he gets on crack cocaine and just simply parks the truck and lives there till he sells everything he can off the trailer. Last time he did that, he had two hookers living in the truck with him and he was pimping them too out of the truck. Right now he is in the federal pen, he got busted carrying over 700 lbs. of marijuana across state lines in a tractor trailer. He says he is going right back to trucking when he gets out of prison. But not to worry, as his older brother proved, you don't even have to have a cdl to work in this industry, his brother drove for over a year with no drivers license at all, of any kind. I guess DOT don't stop the fly by night trucking companies.

No driver is a lot cheaper to have than a half ### driver. Nothing gets torn up or stolen while a truck is sitting. Tell mr. Tax writeoff that he is paying for the mirror so he can have the write off
