Well bummer, I didn't get the local driving job after all. I passed the background check, piss test and did all the pre employment paperwork only to have another driver with 7 years recent experience beat me out for the job. No hard feelings, the company needed someone who could start right away and I would have needed some training ... so be it!

So now I am back to Swift. I need to go to Fontana and sign reinstatement paperwork then, gulp, get with a mentor. One of my classmates is with a mentor right now that will not allow him to bring food aboard and only stops for meals when my buddy pays for both. He is currently out over $300 to the mentor who has not received a positive settlement since he got on the truck. Another classmate's mentor has taken 3 showers since he got on the truck in mid October. They even got a motel room during a break down and the guy didn't shower. Gross!!

Gawd I am so dreading the mentor phase. I just know I'll get one that is broke, stinks and never showers and the truck looks like a trash bin. He'll snore like a locomotive, fart like an old bulldog and allow lot lizards in and expect me to go halves with him.

Oh well, gotta do it to get solo status for a year.

Do NOT....repeat....do NOT tolerate sub-human behavior from a so-called "mentor". Yes, there will be concessions. So be it.

But do not submit yourself to some neanderthal shlub for the purpose of advancing your driving career. Stand up and request professionalism.

    Request....then demand.

Best of luck to you, and be safe!

I guess I lucked out with my mentor. It has been 12 years and we are still friends to this day. I have heard some pretty bad stories, from both students and mentors. Good luck getting with a good mentor that you to actually get along with eachother too.

I must have glossed over this the first time....this reeks of something akin to extortion IMHO. It reaches a point that a person is putting up with such behavior voluntarily. And that's what he's doing if he continues to subject himself to that kind of treatment.

If A Mentor is a Lead or senior driver, then i can tell you if i was training with him and he expected me to pay for any of his food more or less even a cup of black coffee, then after i was done training with him he would look like he spent 3 years in a Concentration camp! As far as not showering, i would throw all his nasty clothes out the truck. What the heck, its only a job with Swift! How ignorant does someone have to be to put up with behavior like that in the free world for a Truck driving Job?

I got Lucky I had a Awsome mentor, we stopped for showers usually every other day and I kept food on truck and my mentor bought me dinner quite a few times and that's how it should be, your making them $$$$ lots of it they get there pay rate for every single mile the Preplan states.

Dont put up with it call Swift or grab ur #### and get out its there lose for treating there students that way.

I plan mentoring next spring (not trusting a student with my life in the snow or my new truck) sorry no offence to the rookies, I still a rookie when it comes to snow I hit snow 5 days last year so I'm still kind of nervous.

But I will train my students the. Right way not just for the extra pay and will buy them dinner and let them shower daily if they choose too even as a team driver u. Can always have 30min for a shower when u switch over.

They need to take the mentor status from idiots that just doit for the $$$$ that's not right u need good training to survive ur first few months solo that's the hardest or it was for more and I had good training but still ran into a few problems along the way I made it my 1st yr so Im pretty comfrotable now except winter driving. But if it gets too bad I'll just send mac22 and stop if red be.
