The title is the question. My trainer is driving down the road right now following his GPS and unfortunately that brand wont take you to any shipper/consignees door. He has a PC miller. Why spend the money if they aren't going to get you there. not just the vicinity. I don't care about bells and whistles. i want it to make life easy.

    I want accuracy.
    I want software updates.
    What brand do i buy?

I had Worldnav and it sucked. I went thru 2 in 6mths. so I have spent the last year reserching these. I talked to drivers, clerks and store managers at truck stops, and the best one with the least returns and most sales, Garmine 465t. I Have not heared one bad thing on it. Truck stops have told me its the one gps unit they sell a lot of, and have in some cases zero returns on it, and those that did it was very very small numbers, and mostly due to it was missing something when they opened the box, so all they did was an exchange. Hope this helps, Im saving up for one myself.

Don't mean to disagree, but I went through 2 of the Garmin 465t's. I bought mine at Best Buy and when finally gave up because of all the bad routes and low bridges it tried putting me under.....the store people said a lot of them were returned. Garmin is number 1 when it comes to auto. routing but for trucks I would be very careful.

I have the Rand McNally unit now and have had very few issues, granted if you look on here people have had more but on the most part if you compare I would bet it is better than most others out there. Especially for truck specific issues.

If you just want a cheaper GPS for basic routing then shoot, just get one of the 100 dollar Garmins.

From what I've read (and its not that much) I think the Rand Mcnally is the one I'd go with if I were needing one right now. To steal from their sales pitch "it was designed and developed for the trucker" not for the car or anything else. So that is where I'd put my money.

Are there any other trucker GPS that are designed from the ground up to be for truckers. Does it take you all the way there or just to the vicinity like the PC Miller I've encountered. I've seen truckers using 2 of them, a tomtom and a pc miller. The PC Miller for restrticted roads and the tomtom to take him to the door, because the other wouldn't., This just looks silly to me. One should do the job.

ALK Technologies Co-Pilot for Trucks. I used the laptop version and it worked great the majority of the time, dock to dock. Just be sure you set it up right and use the atlas to double check and then google maps to see what's around. Combined with directions from shipper/consignee/drivers etc. all together, you'll get there. You need everything you can get for smooth trips and the GPS is an awesome tool in addition to everything else.

And it still does NOT hurt to use the cell and call the shipper or receiver! As in computers BACKUP is best when it costs more in fuel to go out of route than a free cell call! CYA!
