The "name of the game" in truck driving is?

The name of the game in trucking....hmmmm. Well for money side if OTR, its "DESTINY." You control it once you crank the truck up. I'd also throw "COMMUNICATION" in there as well.

 

The name of the game?
Don't break things.
Be on time.
Don't get tickets.
Bathe occasionally.
Communicate...but don't be a whiner.
Don't irritate your fellow workers, especially the dispatcher, the shop foreman, and the lady that does payroll. Especially her.
Be nice to customers, even if they're being idiots.
Lastly...you can be absolutely sure that 90 percent of the people you meet while doing your job think you're a complete idiot. Don't prove them right.

 

I'd hate to be haulin' whatever it is that you haul. My customers always treat me with respect...always.

 

I could probably have worded that better. I said people...that doesn't necessarily include customers. Most of our customers actually are pretty good.
Our drivers, likewise, are mostly a cut above average and some of them are excellent.
The majority of people however think that most truck drivers are knuckle-dragging neanderthals with room temperature IQs and all the social graces of a pack of hyenas. Sometimes they're right.

And that's why I go out of my way to act professional, smile, wear decent clothes, AND brush my teeth.

 

Yup, if you're going to smile, brushing your teeth is really important,
Seriously though, the general public's idea of a truck driver is pretty low. People like you are the only defense we have against the stereotype.

 

Technology Overkill

Devices to keep you in between the lines and far away from other vehicles and even brake for you; devices to monitor speed and to shift for you and Cameras to watch You drive...err. I mean their Technology drive...

The actual New Name for Trucking!
We laugh at the phrase. “ Steering Wheel Holders” But that’s gonna be all of us very very soon....
