Look Pal,,,I don't give a S#!t when the ICC was abbolished and my licence/tax lady has forgot more than ALL of us put together...including you, are gonna know any time soon.
Pay attention now.... "DBA" on the authority means nothing to the bank.
Ya want a "DBA" that means something to the bank,,,ya need to get one for the bank.
That won't change anything on the authority until you change the name ON the authority to show the DBA ya got for the bank.

Again, the DOT #s on the side of the truck need to match exactly whats on the "authority". Put any name on the truck ya want.

    Now I give up!

look, whether it is required by the ICC, FMCSA, your bank or whoever. Doesn't really matter. If you are a sole proprieter you want to either use your legal name or get a dba name registered. Here's why, let's say I did not register Danny Knapp Trucking as a dba. Maybe two or three years down the road I get a call from a lawyer saying, "You need to change your name, my client has been operating Danny Knapp Trucking out of Macon, GA for 22 years. You are using his trade name illegally. So what happens then ? I've been doing business for a couple years, I essentially have to start over. People who know me as Danny Knapp Trucking I have to explain I am no longer Danny Knapp Trucking I am now something else...... It's just a huge can of worms. Use your legal name or register a dba and use that. don't be a moron.

Yes, if DLK trucking wasn't being used by someone else already. I could have also made it "Quality Transportation" or even "Mike Johnson's Trucking" as long as the trade name was not being used by someone else it could be "cookies for everybody". I mean anything. When you register the dba they do a check to see if someone else is using that name and they also have you post a notice in the paper. I think there is someone near where I live who operates "Knapp Trucking". When that notice was published it gave him an opportunity to complain, which he didn't.
