I've been talking with Jim in recruiting. The one big hang up that he has not been able to answer for me is where around Austin i can park the truck and trailer. Supposed to get an answer from him next week as long as the "secure" location ain't to far away, i'll be in the march 12th class.
several things have me leaning towards FFE instead of Central or Stevens. One is if i show up with my Texas CDL permits, it cuts the class time down by 3 days and drops the cost by about a grand if i leave before the first year is up. Another is the pet policy. One more is the pay while out with the trainer is much better that with the others.
I still have questions, re types of loads usually hauled ie LTL or drop hook, and what kind of truck i'll most likely will end up with. i have general ideas about the answers nothing specific though.
gotta say though i'm really looking forward to it.

As for parking, its not that big of a deal, walmart, truckstop. Dont worry about that.As for the truck you get...its a crap shoot. All of the trucks are 2007 and up. You might get brand new ya might not. completely random. I can say if you prove to be an asset to the company your truck seems to be newer.
teqntexas Thanks this. -
Thanks Spat.
I'm just ready to get going. I could have made it into the March 5th class but wanted some time with the fam before i left for a few months. lol, though when i told the wife that it would be the 12th instead of on the 5th, the honeydo list increased tenfold. -
I am looking for something like that... I have my cdl permit.. I studied the manual and just took the test and past on the 1st try now I wanna get behind the wheel to take the skills test, I am really excited... My friend drive and have let me pull up in the fuel isle, do a little backing to hook to trailer, but I want the whole shabang... Thats why I need something like that... Any advice....

Call the recruiting# and ask for Sandi Adams. Most recruiters are full of B.S. and will tell you anything. Sandi was a driver for FFE and has a new baby so she Is off the road now. She will lay it all out good and bad.
I dont know the # off hand, I bet tigger or someone can chime in and give it to you. -
And i wouldn't really say its "hard" to get in... unless you have a "history" with the police... FFE does seem like they are willing to work with people (unless the person is a saftey hazard, or an accident waiting to happen).... -
Its hard if you have a crappy recruiter. It took me 3 weeks to get my start date. 4-5 days for a callback on issues. I have heard that if you have a good recruiter it is all done in a week.
