Hey everyone, glad I found this post
I will be starting the academy on the 4th, I am super excited but also a little nervous. I been studying my cdlprep book like crazy and took the practice exam 2 times and pass each time. Oh boy a lot of questions bit its all good
I can't wait to get to Texas and get this show on the road
-
well poker i personally wouldnt switch companys for that but to each there own , i checked on millis too they were on my short list but for me ffe was the way to go -- still worried about a couple of things but nothing major - swift has a terminal in columbus but it wasnt close to ffe -- also there is a small company dutch maid just down the road from me and its a spinoff from a veggie farm were i know the owners and they want you to get a lerners permit on your own and then a 3 day orientation then off with a trainer no school your out with the trainer a week or two get your cdl and a little more time with trainor and thats it -- i think its 250 a week pay for the training then when your on your own you get 25 cents a mile -- it depends on the individual on how long you train for --guarenteed home at least everyother weekend when the farm is going the majority of the produce goes to hunts pt market in nyc - they stay mostly east of the big creek and they have a lot of short runs from the farm cleveland, chicago , detroit ect a trip to the clevland or columbus food terminal would pay a bout $ 20 might be able to do 2 a day and then get rewarded to go to hunts pt the next day o h plus they take out $50 a week till you get the 2500 they charge for the training __________now thats a starter company lol--- you might want to take a closer look at ffe again they have the best deal going that i have found -- if you can pass the test in ohio you can pass it in texas its the exact same test actually from what i have seen on u tube the texas road test seems a tad easier than ohio's -- i forget my exact reason i passed on millis i think it was the money was quite a bit better at ffe
-
hi horsegurl me and my girlfriend are starting the 4th too --good luck to you -- my brother lives right down the road from you in greer by spartanburg i will be the one in the ohio state hat -- weve got the written stuff down pretty good too -- might see you in the hotel sunday night
-
Wow, small world. I actually live in woodruff which is the same exit(BMW) as Greer. Can't wait to meet yall. Lol I'll be the girl in control boots
So have y'all got your bus tickets yet and jw who is yalls recruiter?
-
well our recruiter is sandy adams and we are skipping the bus trip -- i lucked out my aunt lives in arlington by dallas and my mom was planning on a visit in july but she decided to go early and take us so i could help drive -- wasnt looking forward to that at all -- my brother lives aound the corner from that haunted forest they have right off the freeway cant remember whats it called but i was down there last october and they were packed -he drives for a small local company down there --home every night - he use to drive for averitt and i still have a brother that drives for them and another one that drives for publix stores down in florida ---use to take them with me when i drove when they were kids and i guess they got hooked lol
-
Cool, I have Sandy too she's very nice and helpful and responds back promptly. I have friends that make the Dallas/Ft. Worth run lol I am trying to convince one to come down south to get me and take me with them lol but its not looking so good, looks like a long bus ride. Got everything packed however gotta go get my birth certificate in Columbia tomorrow cause my mother lost my certified copy and i am waiting for my another copy of my divorce papers in the mail since I trashed them when I moved to SC lol. I don't wanna forget anything. Now looking at my bags I think i packed a little to much. I think trucking is contagious, once u go for one ride, you have a yearn for it.
-
yes sandy is good at her job -- I did a lot of checking on companys when i got into this --wanted to have the best start possible --well 34 yr restart for me -- not quite that long lol--i kind of had a short list of 3 companys anyways i had a big list of questions that i went over with the recruiters and sandy was the only one that i thought gave honest answers and didnt duck anything -- she drove for ffe that makes a difference too -- we still have to pack yet --ready for those chilly texas summer afternoons --sometimes it drops down to 88 -- well i need to go tommrow and get a copy of my high school diploma -- cant find it anywhere -- first time i needed it lol --my dad allways told me make sure i finish high school that diploma will come in handy someday
-
Lol chilly 88, id take that. This time last year I was wearing jeans and a hoodie in PA. The Texas heat is going to be a killer lol I am still trying to get used to SC weather again. When I was in Texas in Jan. it was 85 during the day and 45 at night. Too true about the diploma, it amazes me how stupid people are dropping out......can't get anywhere in life without it and honesty school song hard. Thankfully my high school gave us a mini laminated diploma with our normal one to put in our wallets
-
well that was nice of them fortuanatly my high school is only 7 miles away -- i still have 1 more box to check --might be in there -- i have a feeling these next 4 days are going to fly by
