The cost of the school after you graduate is a one year commitment. You must pay for your meals and department of public saftey fees. Ther are no charges if you do not make it through the program. But if you do and decide to leave before the one year is up, even if it is one day, you will owe about four grand.

The biggest thing that trucking has done for me, is make me see that we are all Americans. I am from Dallas, so I love the Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks, and Stars. During my travels I have been to Philly, Pittsburg, Miami, and St Louis. In each one of these cities I have made friends I still text and give #### to, and they to me. I never knew how beautiful it was in these parts of the country. I also thought everyone back east was an ###. I was sooo wrong. It has been so fun with the back and forth. I always look forward to seeing or talking to these people who worship their looser teams :) I got stuck with a guy with a turban on his head, and found out he had the same plans as me, and the same worries also. My life has changed for the better.

Thanks for all your insight, I have been off and on this site for a couple of years now. Like so many others who read these things, It's kinda funny now, seeing all of the different posts. We read posts about what a wonderful company xyz is, and then the next guy say's it's the worst company in the world. Leaving so many newbies (like myself) scratching there heads. Going crazy, trying to find the right company..... I have come to realize that ALL companies have both good and bad. It's all in the attitude!!!!
FFE is going to be my choice here in the next couple of months.. I live in Houston, and it just looks like a decent overall well managed group of people.

I do have a question though!!!! I currently have my CDL A with X endorsement. But haven't driven OTR in over 2 years.. (doing local straight truck stuff right now) Will I have to re-train at the academy, go to DPS, etc....
    Any input would be great!!

    Thanks,
    Dave F

If your cdl is still currant, you will not have to deal with the dps. You will still go through the academy just like everyone else. It will save you some money, and you wont attend the first three days of class, but all the rest will be the same. The only way in is with the training, but you will be glad you did it.

Freezer, crazy simple question about bedding. You think I could just pick one up (and pillow) when I get there, at Walmart? I have a decent size duffel bag, but can't see how I can stuff a sleeping bag in it, along with 7 days of clothes. The dog allows 1 checked bag and 1 carry-on.

What if they let you go before your yr is up ?

My wife and I are planning to be team drivers for a company and we are really thinking about going to a local community college $2700 ea plus expenses and just paying upfront so we dont really have to make any commitments to anyone .. would this be a better approach for rookies IYO ?

That would work, you just need to let them know you need to get to wallyword as soon as you can.

They are not doing all this to let you go. If you have plenty of money to spend, then I guess it doesnt matter. I have a friend from my class, and her and her boyfriend are doing great. She had a rough time making it through, but they saw she wanted it and didnt give up. Her over the road training lasted longer than normal, but now she is kicking ###.
