I am being honest. Once you get your record expunged you are allowed by law to say that you dont have a criminal record because I don't have a record anymore. They erased it. But it's still new to me to be able to say that. So I'm just a little freaked out that it's stuck out there in cyber space somewhere. But if they pull the official court records it's not there.

Can't you just tell them you used to have a record but it was expunged? That should cover you on all levels.

I would rather not. Because the charges I had against me are things that trucking companies really look down on. One was for drug paraphernalia and the other was aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

I know that sounds pretty bad. But the truth is both really were not as bad as they sound. The pariphernalia charge wasn't even my stuff. I know everybody says that but unfortunately for me it's true. I'm not saying I never did drugs but at the time it happened I had already stopped but was still hanging out with the wrong crowd. A girl left boots in my truck and in the boots she left other stuff. I got pulled over by a jerk cop. Asked if he could search my truck and me being clean said be my guest. Imagine my surprise when he found stuff!

The assult charge was a fight over a girl when I was 18. I'm 40 now. I was young and dumb and thought that's what you were supposed to do. Now I know better. By the way the deadly weapon was a ratchet! It was a big one but a ratchet none the less. Lol

All this happened when I was young but if you just spent 6 months getting all this stuff erased from your record. Along with paying to get it erased, would you want to explain those stories if by law you didn't have to?

I'm not trying to lie to them. I'm allowed to say no on an application. Thats the whole point of an expungement. If I tell them, I should have just saved my time and money and put yes on the application.

But at the same time I would like to be sure nothing is out there to stop me. So if I know which company they use then I would just get my own background check before I apply. I would assume they use hirerite. If they are going to pull my dac from there then why would they go to another company for my background when hirerite supplies them too. So I will probably just get one from hirerite to see what it says. Already got my dac report but doesn't show anything because I don't think they were around when I drove before.

I dint know how much it costs, but maybe you could get a copy of your background check through HireRight. Then you'd know exactly what they'll see.

As an alternative, apply with a major carrier that you have no intention of going to. Let them run the background for you, then you get a free copy.

As I am an HR Rep you can list/state no and should something come up you will just need to provide the background agency a copy of the court paperwork showing that it was expunged, it usually takes about 30 days from my experience for states to clear the file.

    Hope this helps

I definitely plan on taking my court paperwork with me to any orientation I attend. Does ffe wait to do the background check at orientation or do they do it before you start the school?

You will start on backing range. Pull forward 50' then straight back. Repeat all day. Next day is Texas parallel. You will do this most of the weekend. Monday you start shifting with a trainer. Will shift up and down the highway access road. Make a few left turns. Throughout the week you will do turns, downhills, shifting and such. Friday you will take the road course. Need to pass this in order to get a job with FFE. Saturday and Sunday will be 45 backing between trucks and an obstacle course.
