You are correct about that but again, not shown on the main map map page. Scales weren't shown on I40 on the main map page. In a attempt to forstall further discussion, you are right that you can look up dang near anything by going into the tabs. I am not arguing that point. However, on the main page page, where there are icons, the generic ones represent all services that are at the exit or side of the road with the exception being logo specific icons like Chevron. Lets not confuse apples and oranges here. As for me "doing it wrong", you are aware that you can set a [one-touch] tab to bring up almost anything you want. I do have a tab for truck services. But to see these, again, you have to bring them up.

Interesting to note here how the truck service tab, at least while I'm sitting here in Tolleson, Az are all brand name fuel stops like the Pilot and does not include Kw or Pete.....which I suppose don't fall under Magellan's definition of service.

Anyhow, the thing with POI reminds me of similar comments I made regarding the PC- MILER brand of products. Being that the 9270 is so brand new, I wonder if they'll improve on this. The guys at ALK or their manufacturers didn't.

After posting my last, I have discovered that in settings-display-poi, one can click on the poi icon sub-category and choose that category to display. That is assuming there are sub-categories to display. So owe you a debt of thanks for forcing me to go back and look at that Skytrends. Thanks.

Your Welcome! There is also a more detailed instruction manual you can download on Magellan's website under the support tab. Anyway, after 2 years with the RM as well as buying and trying the PC Miler, Cobra, World Nav 3000,and the Garmin truck then returning them. I like this one enough to keep it...... I just hope they update it and fix any issues that come up.

I have the manual....it needs some serious updating before it's even close to helpful. Besides I do my best work without one. It's just a matter of working through the menus and sub menus for the most part.

And, while you returned all the PNDs you've had, I still have most of mine---- all the way back to one of the first Magellan- and no map screen. Has lat, long, and altitude as well as interchangeable fields for rate of advance, speed, crosstrack, course and heading and deviation. Not to forget all the different coordinate system- fun learning eastings and northerns. Still have my Garmin 3+ and five, an orginal Streetpilot that has an amber/ black screen and took metro guide cartridges. Ah----

    Back to now.

Noticed that the icons are lost if if the zoom goes to far out. And as to the icons-here we go. All the truck services, including state scales use the same silly little bus icon. ALK did the same thing. I thought it was nuts then and still do. I am going to bring this up to them tomorrow when I call them.

I wonder how current the map data is. It would not route me up US93 north of the cut off to Bull Head City- kept trying to u-turn me and then it blacked out with a splash screen that read routing through not possible due to restricted or no routes. The dam is open, has been for a while. Also messed up on shortest routing by not using NV318...cuts like 40 miles off going north on US93.

Got a little list going here.

Returned the device due to flakey main page issues. Called customer support, did not have a good experience. Refused to buck up to the next tier- cs is an overseas concern as if that's a surprise. Was finally informed would have to wait till the update which I was told, was indefinate....what ever that means. For me, that meant the end of the story.

All I can suggest is to buy the best.....get a 720. At the very least you'll get almost personalised customer service right here on this very forum. Beats a bunch Indians in Bandledseh named Tom, Sam, and Becky.

Have had the rand 500 for almost 3 years. I Bought the RM 720 when I took the Cobra back. I consider all of them to be junk but, with that being said the Rand is the best of the lot............. You know we can put a man on the Moon and a Rover on Mars but, Making a GPS that can navagate a truck right all the time is beyond our grasp......

I've tried several different lines of reasoning here tonight, only to erase all of them. So I'll just content myself with asking- if they are all junk, then why shell out another $400 for another one? If you are looking for all right all the the time, you're going to be disappointed with the 720 as well.
