the new New Jersey CDL Test

    all I know for sure is that it starts July 31st and you have to 90 degree blindside, go under the hood, and parallel park- at the least.. Practice for it all, you can do it.. Good luck!

    It already started in Winslow NJ on July 12, are you sure about the blindside 90? We have only been set up to practice driver side!

    Haha. Good lord... NJ upped there test to what Colorado's has been for years. Your "upped standards " test is close on exactly what I did 4 years back.

    God that's scary what their standards must have been before that.

    We sent a guy over to take his test a few weeks back (he didn't even get to the pre-trip before he messed up and failed) and he said they told him about the new standards.. He was nervous but when I explained to him that he was gonna need those skills to do the job anyway I think calmed down and accepted it.. It really isn't a big deal, and every road test I've taken for a job had some sort of blindside back in it so its just better to accept it.. Sure, you do everything you can to avoid a blindside back, but you still have to be able to do it safely…

    I didn't know they did CDL tests in Winslow.. I thought it was only Cherry Hill and Salem… Its been awhile since I took my test

    Now, OP. People have been taking CDL tests that include everything in the (new) New Jersey test and doing it for years. Years. I had to do everything on page 12.2 for my CDL -- in 1991. And if people actually have to demonstrate that they can, in fact, drive a rig, then that is all to the good, right? Those that fail shouldn't be on the road.
    Second, they "they expect a 90% fail rate" sounds like total baloney. And upping standards for spite? Come on.
    Third, ask yourself how Werner's recruiter would know that in four days of testing the state only passed two people. More baloney.
    Fourth, your instructor knew that the feds bashed New Jersey but the state never told the schools what to teach and so he doesn't know what to teach? Unpardonable baloney. The school has a responsibility to find out what they have to teach. If they haven't done that, they're stealing your money.
    Study the New Jersey CDL manual. Share it with the school (hey, it's what they are supposed to teach) and your classmates. Ignore the baloney. BOL.

    The new standards are, you actually have to know what you are doing. Thank god! I watched a guy fail 17 years ago a test a trained monkey could pass in New Jersey. Had to drive him back to PA, consoling him the whole way back.

    Hope Illinios and California have to follow suit.

    I was the second guy in NJ to pass. It was on July 10. The problem was the pre-trip. I was the only guy who even made it out of the pre-trip on that day. They made the pre-trip really tough and no one was prepared. There were 8 guys for Class A, and 1 Class B. There were 4 PSE&G workers who came with Smith Solomon. Pre-trip got them all. Now we have to open the hood, and be really specific about things. One of the guys who failed said, they told him he did not mention that he has to clean the dipstick before checking the oil. It really felt like they didn't want anyone to pass. The instructor from Smith Solomon said that the MVC is trying to show the FED GOV that they made it tougher. For basic skills I had to do 90 alley, straight back, and offset back.

    I got my class A in NJ last year and I think they probably had a 90% fail rate then. 6 guys would go out to test and none of them would pass. There was a guy with my group that was on his 4th try for the road portion, and he failed it every single time for the same thing. Back then once you passed a section, you didn't need to retake that part if you failed further down the test. I always thought it was a little weird that here in the communist republic of new jersey where we have no freedoms the testing to drive an 80k truck down the road was a complete joke.. I did mine in under 30 minutes.

    Airbrakes, Pre-trip the exterior, straight line, 90 and right turn. Then do a 4 mile road test on wide open county roads in the middle of nowhere.

    I feel bad for guys taking this test now, especially since they need to retake the entire thing...and wait 2 weeks to do so.
