Pilot Travel Reaches Deal To Buy Flying J Plazas

My brother in-law was in a J early this morning, when a fax came in from FJ corporate. Pilot plans to shut down ALL Flying J restaurants.

Not much of a loss at some of them.

I hear ya! But,there are fewer and fewer truckstops with sit-down restaurants.
I cook quite a bit on the truck, but there are days when I just don't want to, or don't have what I need to cook, and then I'd like to sit-down to a meal.

Fast food, and the deep-fried crap on the deli's just don't do it for me. And there are EXTREMELY few truck stops that keep anything besides bananas and apples in stock, as far as healthy foods go....****sigh****

The reason there are so few is because many are doing what you do.

Personally, at the high cost of what the meal is at the restaurant, I will choose Subway or McDonalds with no second thoughts. I usually only eat once a day, so the cost to me is minimum.

Pilot did the same thing when they got Williams.... I actually liked the restaurants that were in the Williams.

Oof! One bout of food poisoning at a Mcdonalds at a Pilot truck stop, was enough to keep me from doing that again!

    1) i think getting rid of the restaurants is not a good move. If, however, it is a cost move, then i can't argue against it. But is it a cost-cutting move?

    2) What they should do is get H.A.L.'s voice to do the shower announcements.

See, today's "managers" don't know what they are doing.

I have gotten sick twice from food. Back in the 80's wendy's tried to kill me with a chili bomb.:biggrin_2554: How does a quart of chili turn into 5 gallons worth over the next 3 days?:biggrin_2554: A year or 2 ago pilot about did me in with one of those chicken fajitas or whatever they were. I was so weak it was all I could do to climb up in the truck.
