The new restart rule actually caused me to drive more instead of its intention

They still do. I'm always running into a new driver complaining he needs a reset because he only has 20 hours left for the next 2 days.scottied67 and Chase05 Thank this.

If I was driving OTR full time I would say screw the restart and run off the recap, unless I was fortunate enough to be able to start it as close to 7:00p.m. as possible.
It could of been worse. The unions and railroads along with the trucker hate groups wanted driving restricted to 10hrs a day with no restart.
The problem is how drivers are paid. Not when they drive or don't drive. If your income is solely based on production. Then any regulation that restrict production usually means a pay cut or finding ways around the regulations.
Thats why I don't drive OTR full time anymore. What is the point of going away from home if you can't be productive when you do it. It was not a lifestyle for me. I was out there to turn the miles and run max miles, Then go home. Not sit around in T/S waiting for a new clock because I got hosed at a customer or by the company.scottied67 and airforcetoo Thank this. -
Back in early 2008, I really thought they were going to get rid of the 34, make it 10 hours driving, 14 window and 10 off.
-
I vote 14 hours driving, 16 hour window, no 70 so no need for a reset. That way I can come out of the house, run two months day to day and go home for my 4-6 days then do it again

Here's what I see as being the major problem of the new regulations and the EOBR.....
Drivers are allowing a machine to tell them when they can drive and when they can't.
Maybe I'm old skool but I always thought the individual who was responsible for safety was the best determiner of when it was safe to drive and when it wasn't.
Weather conditions, traffic conditions, fatigue, mental alertness.....
The machine has no way of knowing when it's safe to drive and when it's not.
More regulations will be on the way, when the accident numbers increase, as they surely will with these new regs.stabob Thanks this. -
Worse part is that dispatch now has a way to check and see why you are not driving and can push for it.NavigatorWife and trees Thank this.

I dont understand how some of you can say these regulations will cause accidents, how does taking a break make you get into an accident?Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
Not trying to start Any trouble and I know you are usually right on the nats ##### when it comes to the trucking bible, but I could have sworn the rule was your logs have to be presented to any LEO that asks to see them. So how do you tell if the LEO is certified or not?
