If they ask, you give them the book. But, you can certainly see that they do not know. I was doing paperwork in a Walmart and the local officer asked what it was.
Told him and he had no clue that I had to park for 10 hours.
You can usually tell.
The new restart rule actually caused me to drive more instead of its intention

im sure if a state trooper stops you on the interstate then they know, local cops probably dont deal with truckers near as much
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Most of the troopers around here might, but do not ask.
The guys in the suv's, no doubt. -
I believe more traffic with trucks finding a place to take a 30 min break is going to be one downfall of this new deal.. Planning ahead a little will perhaps help this, but you know how packed some truckstops are already. Just imagine a lot of drivers starting out at 5am Monday morning and then all of sudden they all start taking breaks by 10-11 am.

you dont have to break at a truck stop....I utilize rest areas, picnic areas, heck breaks at shippers/receivers
Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
so the rules rule you?
i wonder what you would have said to King George in 1776
he made rules, the colonies decided not to follow them
you know why? because they were bad rulesstabob and NewNashGuy Thank this. -
the same way FMCSA said it will save 19 lives every yeartrees Thanks this.

It's not the taking a break. It's all the unintended consequences, along with eobr's and regulation on top of regulation. You will end up spending more time figuring out when and where to stop, plus running like your hair is on fire trying to maximize miles, while all these clocks are ticking down. So drivers will drive in unsafe conditions, whether its because they are tired, sick, or bad weather, when under less stringent rules and paper they can pull over rest, or wait it out.25(2)+2, NewNashGuy, bigblue19 and 1 other person Thank this.

For example, you're 2 hours into your day and to not fault of your own you approach a city or traffic problem with considerable slow and go traffic. Used to, many would stop and take a break for a half hour or so until the traffic can clear up, now that time would be wasted because you'll have to do it all over again later on in the day to be compliant when you need to be running to offset the time you lost waiting on the traffic to clear earlier ... so you run in the traffic when anyone with sense would realize it would be safer and more efficient to stop if it weren't for this new stupid requirement. That's just one common example among many others.
it's not the requirement so much as forcing you to take a breal when it may be far less then an ideal time ... drivers take breaks but used to be you could take a break when it was both convenient and a more efficient use of time, not so now on many days, for many drivers who have varying schedules and freight demands, while dealing with varying traffic, weather, and appointments and now they have one more "appointment" they have to meet daily on top of everything else .... stupid law. period.bigblue19, airforcetoo and 25(2)+2 Thank this. -
Yeah I think you did. How did I say that I know more than anyone?? And 30 min a day 5 days 2 1/2 hours a week 52 weeks a year 130 hours a year NO PAY! That's my problem with this. Oh can someone send me a link to story about a driver doing hard time in prison for a 30 min discrepancy on a log? God you holyer than thou drivers are coming at me like im bragging about driving 900 miles a day. I live in the real world sorry for being honest about it.
