I don't work for them, never have, probably never will.

But you're right about Walmart in the early 2000's. They changed shopping as we knew it, at the cost of many smaller, private run stores. They built a store about two miles from my house, probably around 2005 or so. Most of the area I live in is very resistant to change. Walmart was not welcomed with open arms. I know of two small grocery stores that went out of business, after serving the area for many years. Stores that had a solid reputation in the area.

Now here we are in 2018, and Walmart is still here, with their chronic horrible customer service. I refuse to shop there after last Black Friday. They had exactly two cash registers open at 5 pm. Lines across the store, and half the employees standing around twiddling their thumbs. And alot of VERY unhappy people.

Rumor in the area is that the store has not lived up to Bentonville expectations and they are considering closing. Which upsets me even more. Now that they've run the mom and pop stores out of business, and have found this area to be un profitable, they wanna leave. Then the worst of the worst, Dollar General will move in to replace them.

Yeah, I don't care for Walmart. And the way they're apparently treating their drivers doesn't help their case.

By the way, how's the sandbar these days? We will be venturing down in August this year for vacation, bearing our touristy garb and looking as out of place as possible. But trying to 'blend' haha.

Just looked on their website. 35 different locations hiring. I don’t ever remember seeing more than 5 or 6 at most.

But in management's minds, they are helping, not hurting the company. Look at the money they're saving, by slip seating, instead of buying a thousand new trucks. By starting drivers out at a lower wage, and not giving the opportunity to ever make senior wages, By only having 3 cashiers working, instead of 8-9.
Money savings makes that stock price go up, brings in more investors, makes the bean counters hero's in management's eyes.

I stopped reading at slip seating... Sad, and not what Sam would have done. These are the wages of what, 20 years ago? Shaking head.

Maybe some of you guys don't get it. Drivers leaving is the desired outcome if your ultimate goal is to convert to contract haul. Since they can't really cut wages to seniority drivers [to force them out quicker], they have to find other ways to create discontent among them and create a slow but steady exodus of "expensive drivers".

This is not a Walmart issue, this is just the way big business has to operate this day in age if they are going to compete LONG TERM in a changing retail world.
