And the why? You jumped through all their hoops. Why did you?

 

I may or may not have been working for this one broker that handled one of my favorite regular receiver’s accounts. Since the “freight recession” this broker may have found a carrier to do it cheaper for the past few years. This broker may have posted one of these loads on the load board earlier this month for close to the same rate I was doing for a decade ago and……I may have called the said broker, certain that I could book this load and……they have since last I hauled for them, went the way of the HIGHWAY.
I told them in no uncertain terms to pound sand!



I may or may have not just landed a new direct account with their old customer!

 

Companies like highway are getting popular because all of the fraud from scammers. It really sucks but that’s the driver behind its growing popularity. There’s going to be a huge 2 or 3 companies take over this market and then begin offering more targeted freight matching as well. DAT sees this and is also making some moves.

 

So in the end do you feel as if dealing and complying with Highway will be a new standard/normal thing?

 

I do and that’s coming from somone who’s spent months/year or longer losing probably 2 dozen broker partners, some asset based and some non because I wouldn’t conform.

Finally, I had to upload my id which id refused since the beginning. It went smooth and all with no problems and I was struck by how advanced their technology was. Normally, trucking is antiquated in about every way. Not much real new tech has hit the mark and helped the industry even tho billions have been spent.

Sometimes when something has been your enemy, it’s interesting to see why is this becoming so popular. I instructed my guys to setup and demo and let’s see it from the other side. Honestly, it’s impressive the amount of tools and reporting is available to make sure you’re working with legit carriers that are atleast somewhat well ran and legal. Lots of cross checks and security features that also flag if a carriers identity has been stolen or taken over.

Once I saw that side I understood it more and as more carriers open their ELD to that tracking vs things like macropoint, then that will ultimately I think help carriers to keep their trucks more efficient and with less fraud happening as well on both sides.

DAT has bought a lot of companies and tech lately and are working backwards to revolutionize their main product the load board.

It feels very weird to say since I had hard feelings until recently, but it could actually help us real carriers in the long term even though it feels like an invasion of privacy. Fraud and scammers are too rampant, and ultimately it would be nice if this system made sure folks are here legally.

 

Oh yeah, it's here to stay.

 

Why would they need a copy of my title? How does that help prevent fraud?

I ask, because I always just put my cab card in there too. When it's one of those that asks for me to scan my license and take a selfie, find somebody else.

 

So it’s easier for someone to take a loan out against your truck. In all seriousness it doesn’t make sense to ask for the title the cab cards should be more than enough.
