It ain't all that tough. Lighten up ndfw. Mental toughness is relative. OTR driving compared to urban combat is a cake walk. My 20 years OTR 48 state flatbed driving after 22 years in the military WAS a vacation to me. I loved every minute of it. It's all about perspective. Strong will, self-discipline, safe quick correct decision making all fall under ATTITUDE. I would also add that a great sense of humor is vital to continued success as an OTR driver. If you can't laugh and your an ### to everyone, you won't get far either. You need to have a rapport with everyone you have to deal with on a regular or semi-regular basis. Again, ATTITUDE. I looked at truckin as a great way of life. I got to see the lower 48 states, mountains, oceans, farmland and met great people from all parts of the country. I got home every three weeks for four or five days. My wife was the best God could have given me. Anyways, Good Luck new drivers. Enjoy seeing this great country and enjoy the freedom afforded you.
