The way l read your post the boss hasn't said anything to you yet. Your putting a lot of words in his mouth from the actions of other drivers. If you want to quit quit but you drive your own truck so you can decide to drive safely on your own. If tge bossis the kind to lecture you for not getting enough loads in a day he'll let you know in a hurry. If he doesn't and you're making enough money just do your thing and enjoy being home every night. Btw l started out in gravel so l know enough about gravel haulers and them thinking they're above the law. If you stay in it youll see old timers that have done it for a long time without being cowboys and have made a living at it too.

As long as the equipment was safe, your paycheck is good and nobody's calling you everyday about when your gonna pick up your next load and why ant you there yet? Then I wouldn't worry about what the "other drivers" tell you to do. As for the going to fast and following distance, do what you do, don't worry about what everyone else does.
TaterWagon#62, G13Tomcat, wore out and 1 other person Thank this. -
Air ride trucks are even more squirrelly. -
No, I meant thats how some of my co-workers drive, not that the OP should drive like that -

about a year ago when i was still working as a milk receiver i saw one of the milk hualer's truck rolled over and in flames. the sight of that W900 going up in flames and that torn up milk trailer is fresh in my mind. I WILL NOT BE THAT GUY. it was his second roll over in a month and he lost his job, he is lucky he didnt loose his life. i will never forget that.
one more problem at least with this week. i worked monday. tuesday, wendsday, and now today no work. the first two days i had no work becuase of rain; today is gorgous and sunny but he calls me last night. truck 147 had a radiator fail, i drive 145. he needs 145 for a more senior driver because that guy's truck is broke. i took this job as a full time job, that should not be my problem.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
this trainer said that empty the short wheel base 10 wheeler i am driving will corner like my 96 camaro Z28 that i drive. my response to that remark NO WAY. the speed rating is on a curve for a reason.

actually your wrong about the camaro. low ground clearance, wide tires and a suspension that's built for it. usually people that say something like that have never driven one. they handle quite well for what they are. almost corvette like handling.
now a 10 wheeled dump truck on the other hand is not that car, i know that.gentran Thanks this. -
chinatown asked me why i choose a fly by night company, well they arent really fly by night. he has been in business for 30+ years is a massive company with 7,000 trucks NO, but i dont want to work for one of those anyways. i dont know what defines fly by night. its not like he opened the doors yesterday.
I still see allot that i dont like. i dont engage in reckless behavior and i dont plan on starting to. -
