When you are in a hurry that's when the worst things happen. If the load is already late just try to get it there safely, legally, soon as you can. Dont start speeding , bobing and weaving in and out of traffic, running too fast for weather condition, whatever reason it may be why its late, wake up late, disp late, weather etc. As long as the load made it to final they better appreciate the fact that it arrive. That's what I go by on the road. I have to make it to my most important stop. HOME

Learned long time ago, there is no load that it is that important. ran into a Swift driver one evening long ago that asked me a question. He just finished training, and his question, what to do when in ice and snow. My answer, he is in control of his truck, and if not comfortable, shut it down, send msg, and Swift will back him up, within reason. I know what he was asking, and he was new, and he was telling me that his Mentor was telling him to push on.

    That's what a mac22 is for.
Send it in as soon as you know you will be late, with a new ETA that gives you enough time to deliver safely.

Then calm down, and take it easy to your destination.

Late dispatch? Mac22 once you do your loaded call. If they don't like the ETA then they will try and T call.

We may not be able to 'get' in a hurry,

but, we can sure feel like we need to 'be' in a hurry.

Instructor here in San Antonio said loads are calculated at 45mph, is that right?

    No.

If they were there would be a lot more time to get it there.
As it is, I usually have to turn down a load and give more accurate ETA times - because they are usually calculated at 60 with no regard for meals or other breaks.

In the pre plus one days they were supposed to be at 50 MPH, since plus one, it's much more than that.
