I have my own internal guide for a job “well done” Doesn’t really matter to me if it gets noticed or I get credit for it or not, I just do it for myself. Even the simplest of things. When I park in the truckstop if I’m not dead center between the two lines I’ll pull up and make sure I am. Why? Well, why not? I go for walks around the truckstop. I can tell who the sloppy truck drivers are by the way they park. Lol are their wheels straight, are they straight between the two lines. Just a thing I was taught early on. Take pride in all aspects of trucking, for yourself if nothing else. I think over a long period of time it does make a big difference. Because your skill set, when you demand perfection from yourself will continue to improve.

The ethic we show reflects many things.
Mine is strong and probably goes above and beyond.
It was instilled and reinforced by parents and educators throughout my childhood and remains strong still.
It's reflected in the job I do, the homes I've owned and the belongings I call mine.
I try to bring my A game in most facets of my life. It gives me self worth and satisfaction.

I've gotten to know a local driver who works at my terminal. I see the guy but once a month or so, more because of my schedule. We always take the time to catch up on the family as he's extremely proud of his kids and what they have achieved since he first came to this country from South of the border...legally. He's also a trainer for the company.

So we ran into one another and he's absolutely tickled pink to tell me that he just got assigned a new truck. Brought me over to the truck and wanted me to get in the seat and give me the high dollar tour of his new ride. He was beaming, which led him to show me recent pics of the kids, the wife and his Mom. I know this guy to be a good dude. Works very, very hard and doesn't say no to anything or anyone. He absolutely deserves everything he has gotten in life and I'm quite sure it's because of his work ethic.

So we finally quit the BSing. He closes the hood and is getting ready to walk to his car. He stops and realizes he didn't lock the passenger door. While he's walking over to the door he says to me, "You gotta be careful with the haters around". I was flabbergasted by his remark, and then I remembered 6's thread.

When you bring your A Game, be prepared.

That's my strategy for everything in life. I watch an expert do it, and I learn from that, or I will just ask the expert himself.
