    When I was in the oilfield doing cement we hired a woman that turned out to be really good. She was tough as nails, didn't take crap from anyone.

    mainstream media is controlled by like 5 or 6 main companies. It would be like expecting some vastly different experience from the 5 or 6 major domestic airlines but we know it's all the same crap.

    That's a big part of why I don't miss journalism. The few jobs that still exist don't pay anything anymore.

    And anything that's written now has to be done so with a slant, whether to the left or right.

    I worked on the rig with one. She was tough. She made it and I wimped out. Still regret not toughing it out. Today is the 3 year anniversary of that decision.

    Had one that worked for Conoco Phillips that was a real looker. She handled herself very well and could give back 10 fold. Loved working with her when they had problems. Was smart and made decision fast when needed to get stuff done. If you worked on Conoco site you know they move slow on everything when something is wrong.

    Most people who used to be in journalism have gotten out and found jobs in Public Relations firms. Why live like a pauper and spread objective truth when you can live like a prince and place stories biased towards the person signing the check?!? Sadly, I can’t ever see this going back to what we called normal before.

    Truly I tell you, if you see the success of anyone--male/female, Black/White, straight/queer, whatever--as some sort of threat to you, you not only are not a man, but I highly doubt you could even be called an adult. Some people need to buy mountain climbing gear and get over themselves.

    Yes unfortunately there will always be someone out there that will disagree with you for what ever the reasons, just last night on night shift I was refueling my truck and one of the other drivers walked over and asked me could he get a lift back with me to our base camp some 112 km south of the fuel farm, I said sure no worries mate, anyway we get rolling keeping in mind i'm driving a 60 m long road train I turn at the next intersection and it starts he goes "what are you doing"? I reply" what do you mean?" He replies "why are you going so far forward for" I thought "that's kind of obvious isn't it?" I'm towing a 60 m long set of trailers I need to move out well beyond the curb before I start turning to the left. Then he's going on about gear changing he says why are you using the clutch? I'm again thinking that's kind of obvious ain't it? Seriously after less than 5 minutes I felt like tossing him out of the truck. But wait there's more yes much more so keeping in mind its an hour and 20 minute drive back to base camp I'm thinking how am I going to put up with this clown? Anyway we get to talking about the trip we make between the Iron Ore mine and the Port area and I say " we'd easily lose about 1 hour because our trucks are so de-rated down to only 550 hp going up all the hill climbs. Hes replies "no I recon we only lose about 5 minutes", I think is this guy on some kind of drugs or what? When a truck with 700 hp hits the hills it will slow down but no where near as much as a truck with only 550 hp so over about 100 km of climbs that adds up to quite a bit of time when one truck is only averaging about 45 km per hour as compared to one averaging 65 km per hour. In one hour that's a total of 20 km. Getting back to the main topic here there was a great example of when we think something won't make a difference that I read in Jack Canfields Chicken Soup book, This guy is walking down the beach and sees another gentleman on the beach tossing these star fish that were left stranded as the tide went out back into the water, he says to the guy why are you doing that for? The gentlemen responds "well I'm trying to save some of these star fish from dehydrating out in the sun" the other beach walker responds " you know there must be hundreds of thousands of those very same star fish stranded all along our beaches what possible difference could you make?" The gentleman says nothing picks up another star fish and tosses it back into the water and replies " It made a difference to that one" One last poem that has always motivated me I' d like to finally share with you all. Its called "Don't Quit" by Edgar A. Guest
    When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
    When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
    When the funds are low and the debts are high,
    And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
    When care is pressing you down a bit -
    Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

    Life is queer with its twists and turns.
    As everyone of us sometimes learns.
    And many a fellow turns about when he
    Might have won had he stuck it out.
    Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
    You may succeed with another blow.

    Often the goal is nearer than it seems
    To a faint and faltering man;
    Often the struggler has given up when he
    Might have captured the victor's cup;
    And he learned too late when the night came down,
    How close he was to the golden crown.

    Success is failure turned inside out -
    The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
    And when you never can tell how close you are,
    It may be near when it seems afar;
    So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -
    It's when things seem worst,
    You must not quit.
