Can anyone tell me their experience at the dmv and what the knowledge test was like?I plan on reading the manual till I can easily get 80% on all the practice tests on this site and others so I doubt I'll have trouble
Some main things I'd like to know are
Was it taken on a computer?
Was there a time limit ?
Did you fail your first time?
How many questions in total was it?
How many wrong to fail?
Was it all multiple choice?
The Permit test in PA(and other states I guess)

I only took the combination test, as I already have a Class B. It was on computer and multiple choice. There were several questions on there that I hadn't seen on the practice tests; they appeared to be ones that would normally be on other tests you would have needed before combination (General commercial as well as the regular car test).
I want to say that the test was 70 questions, and you go until you get 56 right or 14 wrong, whichever comes first. I believe that there was a time limit, but it was quite a bit longer than I needed. Something like an hour, and I needed less than 20 minutes. I passed the first time, but then I was missing only one or two (if any) on the practice tests.
If you can consistently get 90s on the practice tests, go take the real one.Last edited: May 26, 2013

I am in Texas and the test was on a computer. Don't remember on a time limit as the test was pretty easy. Passed the first time. Think it was 20 or 30 questions. Not sure on how many wrong you get, think it was about 5 and they were all multiple choice. The only parts of the test that confused me were the couple of questions I was asked about taxi cabs.

I recently took the written hazmat test in pennsylvania. Thirty questions on the computer and you need 80% correct to pass.
. Best advice I can give you is to press the "skip" button if you are not sure of the answer. The test ends automatically when you get 80% correct or you answer all available questions -- whichever comes first.
. So on the 30 question hazmat test, I skipped 4 questions, answered 24 questions correctly and the test ended because I got the 80% correct answers that I needed to pass the test. Never answered the 4 questions I skipped and never got the final 2 questions that were available.
