Either way, say what you want, but there's this
Meanwhile, the ILA is demanding a 77% increase over the duration of the contract, with a $5 increase each year of the contract. Workers would make $44 the first year, $49 the second and up to $69 in the final year.
about a third of local longshoremen made $200,000 or more a year.
And this
Harold Daggett's sprawling NJ mansion has Bentley, 5-car garage and guest house (nypost.com)
And this
Daggett, who has been alleged to have ties with the mafia, is president of the International Longshoremen’s Association, a job that comes with a salary of $728,000 annually on top of an additional $173,000 from ILA-Local 1804-1.
But, hey, it's all about the workin' man, right?

The Port isn’t going to be shut down for long. Too much money at stake. Both sides play poker. Always starting at outrageous levels. Then settling for less. Somewhere they meet common ground. Always start high, you can always go down. Start too low, can’t go up. Reminds me of the sales tactic of Showing you the top of the line, at a high price. then peeling you off the ceiling, showing you something more affordable. In comparison it’s seems like a bargain. In reality it’s just an average deal.

For all the "they're asking for a 77% raise, that's ridiculous" posts - that's over the life of the contract, call it 11% a year. That is a hefty raise, and might seem excessive until one looks at the income for USMX directors over the last 5 years. USMX is basically the union for the shipping companies/port operators. Then look at executive and board compensation for Maresk, Evergreen, Hapag-Lloyd, and Cosco over the last 5 years. It's hard to make apples to apples comparisons, but rough math says 10% annual increases in compensation.
If the executive suite and the board of directors have been getting 10% raises every year, why can't the rank and file?hope not dumb twucker, cuzzin it, BoostedTeg and 1 other person Thank this. -
