but please, if you're going to quote me, be sure you keep my quote in the context it was given. When I know i'm rolling across a scale, you bet your az my weights will be legal, and my logbook up to date. and i sure as heII wont be running 2-3 hrs past my 14. -
So this is how Knight parts ways with a driver with 12 total accident/ticket free years of experience(. Kevin wouldn't have it any other way.[/QUOTE
they can get a new driver and get subsidies for training
we go home every day and have sunday and most saturdays off. 3 drivers quit in last month .two are on highway jobs at 30$ an hour..its tough time but no accident or tickets and 12 years experience dont apply at knight/swift or other kindegarden carriers
they wont change the business model to keep experienced drivers til the incentives for high turnover are removed -
4 years is a little extreme don't you think?

Pilots are only paid block time. That is from when the plane leaves the gate to when it arrives at the next gate. Otherwise you get noting, sans a per diem that less than minimum wage. This has been a major sore point for a long time.
That crash opened a can of worms no one wanted open much less the FAA and the airlines.
I would suggest some research before putting you keyboard in gear. I was almost a commuter pilot (ASA/Skywest) before I found out that I made more as a truck driver. -
I was referring to large airlines. Not commuters.
You know, kind of like comparing the number of drivers at Swift to Continental/US Air. -
Never could figure out why Knight doesn't pay the drivers on those loads so much more. Then again, Knight doesn't have it together enough to do real dedicated fleet action.
But the amount per mile those loads paid, holy crap.... -

BJnobear is right about pilots being paid only for block time.
As to "The INT and transcont pilots make good money and retire at 60", the mandatory retirement age was raised to 65 a few years ago (2007). Quite a bone of contention for older pilots, and for newer hires waiting to move up.Last edited: Oct 10, 2010
BJnobear Thanks this. -
Lets not talk about the REAL reason that Colgan Air flight crashed. It had NOTHING to do with the flight crew being tired. had nothing to do with icing (though it sure didnt help). it had everything to do with the fact that the captain had failed numerous check rides, and had only BARELY passed the test to become a captain. 3,300 hrs flying time, 300 flying the Dash 8 and 100 as captain of said a/c type. It was also found that the actions of the crew were inconsistant with company stall recovery procedures. The lady first officer had retracted the flaps, and asked if the gear should be put up. The crew failed to monitor the instruments, and the plane was flying on auto pilot at the time of the upset.
like American Eagle 4184 that crashed on halloween, high wing aircraft need to be manually flown in order for a crew to be aware of the behavior of the aircraft in icing conditions.
