I met privately and talked to Kevin Knight for about 10 minutes and found him to be a wonderful gentleman. I left my job with Knight Refrigerated when elogs became mandatory. Got a call from the VP of Safety and he explained to me why they went to elogs. They all encouraged me to stay, I was happy there and making money. Now I have not found another job that I wanted to stay with and am experiencing a financial crisis.

I don't think you should blame only the trucking companies for elogs. The DOT, the FMCSA(I like to refer to it as compliance not safety), Qualcom and others are pushing hard for more of a police state and more invasion of privacy.

The problem is that when you make an Aaron Russo stand against what is happening in America, unless you have a lot of money, you are going to be in trouble.

    I tried to make a difference !

At last, another poster hits the nail on the head about this biz. Trucking companies are in business to make money and not to keep drivers happy and employed. When you digest this one fact and start looking out for yourself and stop expecting a company to care for you, you will make better career decisions.
It isn't just Knight, put Werner, Swift, Stevens, CRE, Central, JB Hunt, Marten, USA, Tango, etc etc into this same ideal. They are in it to make money and drivers need to be independent and don't be surprised when you are the one to pay the price. Trucking is no different than any other industry in this regard. If the profits are not where they are supposed to be they will cut overhead until they are. Some would say this is depressing but it has always been this way and will continue to be.

    Dear truckdriver dave,

No and no - this is what I posted on the Washington Post website tonight :

What is the basis in the Constitution for the usurpation of power by regulatory agencies ? If you can't get the carbon tax through the congress, have the epa do it. If you can't get the bill to have mandatory elogs(eobrs) in semi trucks, have the FMCSA issue a new regulation. Maybe we should take a Que from the Egyptians and take to the streets to take this gestapo power away from federal agencies.

As you may or may not know, the bill to require elogs in trucks died in the lame duck congress last year and apparently fearing no passage this year the FMCSA (I like to call it compliance not safety administration) a couple of days ago proposed to change the rules and require elogs in all semi. There is a 60 day comment period starting about 2 days ago.

Try to keep the discussion above the level of the fuel tank !
    thanks,

Why didn't I go to law school... I LOVE this type of argument. Freedom vs Big Brother.

Any regulation, like any law, has to pass the Constitutional sniff test. I really doubt most regs passed since oh 04 would pass it. EPA is the biggest offender second is far distant.

Then alll these companies whine that there is a driver shortege. Hmm How about trying some driver retention, maybe treat them like gold, cause it;s those drivers that helped thos companies get to where they are today.

What did you expect? I met the man, I was unimpressed!!!
He tried to bamboozle me but I wasn't buying his fiction.:biggrin_25513:

If they spent half as much $$$ RETAINING GOOD DRIVERS, they wouldn't need to RECRUIT SO MANY BAD STEERING WHEEL HOLDERS!!!

Bingo ! This man has it figured out. Trucking ain't going to change to suit the driver. Never has, never will.
