It becomes 2nd nature.......honestly, if you do it enough, you'll learn how to plan your trip to avoid some of the headaches. You may have to drive at a time that's unfavorable, but once a week ain't killer. It still isn't I-95 from Richmond going northbound.

OP is a Christian trucker.....I'd like to recommend to him the song, "Jesus Take the Wheel."

I see job hopping as just one of those stages in life that comes up every few years or so. Things are going swell at a company for 2-5 years. And then whatever made you tolerate the place is now slowly eroding. Time to do the "hop" again until you find that right fit that makes you commit to that new place for a length of time.

I know I'm about to go through the "job hopping" stage again myself. Some will criticize me for it, others will root me on. But I usually keep quiet about it on places like this until I've found my footing again and then tell the tale.

That does happen. I think an experienced driver can a good enough feel for a company without having to do a lot of job hopping. OTR is what is though. A company's running lanes and size can tell a lot about a company. I'm kind of a simple guy when it comes to choosing companies, so to be fair my thought may be a little unfair...that seemed like a weird sentence..lol

Of course I'm leery about making jumps after having a successive round of job-hopping in 2010/2012. My biggest issue is playing "ding-dong-ditch" with companies; putting in an application thinking no one's going to respond. Then someone responds and I act like I got caught with my pants down and more or less pretend I never applied. This has had the detrimental effect of burning me from applying to other companies for awhile. And also keeping me grounded at the current job until I finally find the right time to bounce.

However, I think the only job hopping I might be doing real soon is accepting a local milk shuttling position with a company here in town and then leaving after a bit. Give me some time to clean my apartment and have it looking the way I first got it. Find another apartment or dwelling in the next city with a decent LTL/Linehaul or fuel tanker and home-daily gig and GT FO.

I job hopped my entire early life, pissed my father to no end, three different jobs he got me I quit within a few weeks. Then he found me one I liked and I screwed the pooch. At some point I had to make the decision to grow up, spent four years with one company (till it cost them $5K to fire me, thanks OSHA), I've been with my current carrier a few months shy of 24 yrs, at least once a year I contemplate quitting, usually for two or three days, I've even shopped my skills around a few times, then I realize I've got it too good and I go back to griping, while collecting my decent checks.

    My 2 cents..
If you ain't happy with your lot in life then you need to change it.
I'm old school so I'd give notice as soon as you found a company you want to try.
    Plenty of work/jobs out there.
I've never had a concern about the number of jobs I've worked, and as long as I left on good terms, neither has any potential employer.
The search for a good fit is sometimes a lifelong challenge.
    Good luck.
