I left Schneider.
They pay 10 days for 2 weeks of vacation; I decide a weekend was my version of 2 weeks notice.
They assigned someone to my truck before I woke up , I had to grab my stuff and go. Truck was dirty and I took my personal mattress with me.
Screwed me out of my quarter bonus.
Now I get emails asking me back and for more money.

With a small company you would want to give notice. With the megas it isn't required. The mega doesn't give you notice when they fire somebody. Just wait till hometime then clean out truck, take pics, QC the dispatcher, then be on your way. Too many times i have read that after giving notice some outfits jack you around and send you to the east coast when you are trying to go west. The megas have 100 new drivers a week coming in the front door and 100 leaving out the back. One driver leaving dont mean squat to them.

Best way to quit a company? Get angry at your last final, make a terroristic threat to kill the forklift driver and burn down the dock managers house. Then leave the rig at the local brothel after you have did your best to put every person in a 20 mile radius in the dark by knocking down as many power poles as you can. Then toss all the permits and your bill of lading in the trash just before you call your company telling your fleet manager where to find the truck and end the call telling same fleet manager in explicit detail how to preform a sex act on himself. I think that about covers it.

In reality though if it's a small company where they are depending on you or a day cab job where you go home every day like an LTL job, giving them notice is the right thing to do. You want them talking nicely about you when somebody comes asking about you later. I've had that bite me in the butt before especially when dealing with union shops and whatnot. They talk.
If it's an OTR mega carrier, you're just a number or at best a faceless name and nobody really cares how much notice you give as long as you don't abandon their truck or leave it trashed.rachi Thanks this. -
The whole point of a two weeks notice, is to allow your employer time to find a replacement, so they can fill your position. If you work for a mega, your replacement is sitting in orientation. No notice is needed, and your leaving doesn't affect anyone. I know of several drivers that were told no notice was required if they'd like to go ahead and go. It's usually the smaller carriers that will have someone that goes off the deep because you're leaving. Just remain polite and courteous about it all. But no way would I give anyone the chance to hang me out away from home.

I have never given notice except when i was driving for a little mom and pop 12 truck operation. I gave em' 2 weeks notice cause i knew they would be affected by my leaving. I felt kind of bad really.

Give the two weeks notice. Most companies will tell you to turn the truck in right that minute as they assume you will steal it form them or wreck it your last day. At the very least they will think you are going to get hurt and sue them.
