It was apparently a Toronto couple who were on their way back home from a cancelled kiss concert in their Bentley . There is great video on Twitter showing the car airborne.

 

Ya the car caught fire once landing on impact…big surprise…no explosive really, ball of flames. Officials knew almost immediately explosives were not present.

It’s possible that the car may have had an unintended acceleration event (a la Toyota/Lexus). There have been a couple of reports of that model having that issue.

 

i believe "unintended acceleration" comes from putting the foot on the gas pedal, and not the brake pedal.

seems to happen a lot with senior citizen drivers. then others use it as an excuse for thier own accidents.

every time i take my Toyotas to the dealership for thier service, they check the placement of the floor mat..on Toyotas, they are "locked" into place, to avoid it from jamming under the gas pedal. one time, i had a thin mat on top, to keep mine clean, and the dealer removed the mat.

i promptly put it back, while i got into my car, after i paid for the work, while it was in the garage, staging area.

 

In this case the two people killed weren’t senior citizens-they were in their 50s.
Also,there have been some reported issues with Bentleys of this type having unintended acceleration and it’s been traced to the electronics- in particular the ECM/TCUs with moisture/corrosion getting into those electronics.

A lot of vehicles nowadays use “drive by wire”(accelerator pedal/computer module electronically controlled throttle) instead of the traditional accelerator pedal/throttle cable linkage setup.
