Ok folks. It's been a long time since an update... I wrote like 7 paragraphs to post memorial weekend but it disappeared when I hit post and I got irritated lol.
So, after considering leaving for live floor work, I injured my knee with my current employer. First they said sprain, then they said torn meniscus, now it's a separated meniscus requiring surgery.... So I didn't pursue the chance to change employers.
Doctor suggested against continuing to drive because of the climbing into the truck and onto the trailer for flatbedding, but I couldn't get out of the truck and go home lol. So for about 2 months my girlfriend rode with me full time and did and climbing and crawling associated with tarping to save on any unnecessary strain. It was pretty great having her with me full time and we got to get out of the northeast a bit and over into Michigan and Ohio etc.
The end of May we found ourselves a place to rent, and move our kids into (long story, but a happy one lol) so that meant she had to stay home while I work. We did one last trip across the ferry to Martha's vineyard and that ended the era we had been in. An interesting final ride for sure.
Since I was still advised against tarping due to the climbing and bending, I quit the flatbedding. I am still with the same company, but doing different work for a different supervisor.
I left my 2019 cascadia auto and triaxle flatbed behind, and I'm now at home in a 2006 Western star 4900 with an 18 speed and a turned up 60 series (supposedly 650ish/2100) hauling a log trailer on the woods roads, home nightly for hourly pay. I've never been so happy as I am with this latest change, which I hope lasts. My surgery is in about a month and we will see how it goes from there.
Thats the general gist of how things have continued after this rookies first year. Hope all is well for everybody following along![]()
