You can really tell the real story by the OP's methodology can't you.

Yeah, they gave me that also. Also the shaft several times. Keep a charge card with ya just in case.
I was terminated for violating company policy. Damage to company property. I do not fault them for that. Just voicing my opinion on the lies, misleading ethics and the way they will abandon you.

I hear ya. Only reason I say I've been lucky is I've wrecked a 2011 truck, then damaged a trailer while backing, and cracked a windshield while replacing the wipers (let the holder go by accident and the metal smacked the glass).

As soon as it happened I always called right away. I'm willing to bet it mainly matters who your dispatcher is and who you talk to in safety.

I can tell you all kinds of stories to contradict the OP statement from firsthand experience. Dude got a bad shake, or so he says. I know when my drivers were in these situations I made sure the right thing was done.

Dude was in pain right, probably shouldn't be driving a car. Motel would be the best option if he hasn't been cleared to drive. I never had a problem putting dudes up in hotels when they got heat stroke, so I can't imagine you couldn't get a motel for an appendectomy.

My issue with dispatchers is that if they don't have a little age, a family and/or driving experience then it is impossible for them to empathize with the drivers they are responsible for. If you haven't dealt with sudden illness, or death within your family you have no idea what it's like. After you have dealt with it, if you are worth anything as a human being you will move heaven and earth to take care of your driver. The key is you have to live with windows instead of mirrors.

I myself have always been treated well by Roehl. I pulled a mussel in my back and they got me a ride to the ER and when I was discharged a few hours later and WAY (pain killers and relaxers) out of it... they called a cab for me and got me back to the truck. And to top it off... It was Nights and Weekend dispatch that did all this for me. So again all I can say is they have treated me well.

This is why I won't work for companies like this.

You pay me by the mile, I only have 11 hours per day that I'm allowed to drive to get those miles, and you route me in such a way that I waste a good portion of that 11 hours that I didn't need to waste. So you effectively cut my pay for your own benefit. I would give them a choice - my route and your pay rate, or your route and extra pay for what I'm losing as a result.

    It's only fair.

Pipe dream yes, but until drivers draw that line, they will continue to take advantage.

Roehl is a coolie carrier. The fact is that there are people at Roehl who have been there for 20 years and they are happy there. And the fact is there are people like the OP who get treated like one of the herd (literally, as in, cattle) at the exact moment he is in need of someone at the company who halfway cares.

It can be both, and it is both.

Companies like Roehl are so big that there are the great niches that are the decent livings everyone is looking for out of a company, and there are the many people who walk out the revolving door every week. It's uneven in the extreme. It's important to keep this in mind because people on either side try to dismiss (or whitewash, or otherwise cancel out) the experiences of people on the other side here ALL THE TIME.

Mel could get hotels for his drivers. But Mel cannot understand why other people cannot get hotels for their drivers. And yet, they cannot (or won't). These seeming contradictions are facts of life at the megacarriers. And this is important to understand, because it unlocks the key to many of the coolie carrier threads here on this board. Otherwise, these threads that contain important information about employers read like just another messageboard flamefest.

Where to start...sorry to hear about how they screwed u for one. Company side is to save money but in my opinion your fms screwed you. Fms can pull strings to get you what u want, my FM does for me, but yet he's a former driver so he understands, he knows how it is, Mis fortunes and maintenance delays of all sorts and does his part to make it better. The only reason I've stayed. JT I had in solo orientation after phase two with my trainer. Him and Marge. JT is a douche but before he went elsewhere out of orientation we got along. But I understand how he was in the beginning for sure. Never driven and wants what he wants no concern for u. Marge on the other hand was a driver and understood etc like my current FM now. The other dispatcher I can't say anything about but I'm sure I've read other roehl threads pertaining to her I'm sure. Knocking off a door wasn't the main reason for termination. I've had a friend get a lot of out of pocket expenses for the sleep apnea thing they do. But they paid for the rental, was issued another truck (filthy one), spoke up got on page with his FM and is still with roehl. It did leave a bad image in his mind of roehl for sure. They're not perfect, nightmare situation, horrible fms that need to be called out on and responsible for your treatment and negligence. A really bad situation maybe better in the long run to seek better employment, home every night and a company that fits your needs. Good luck wish the best for u.
