I feel you but i wont risk being late just to make the call. The priority is the load and they understand that. Ive had a few of those hot 3257 loads and when i do get through to hazmat they usually just thank me for calling and understand why i called when i called. Ultimarely schneider really only cares about no spills and being accident free

And I won’t risk my license or tickets rushing a hazmat load for Schneider. Good things never come out of rushing. It was a load similar to famousk except you passed two scales in the 30 miles.. wasn’t worth trying to make that deadline for $80 pretax. And they kept saying oh the trailer will be there soon as of 0800 they said it’ll be 2 hours.. at 10 they said he was 15 mins away. The trailer wasn’t relay til 1230... they closed at 1400... it was a whole mess

So, I got off the phone with the Schneider recruiter for a regional job out of Indiana, and he straight-up told me to expect between 1300-1700 mi/wk. At least he's being honest! He did say no NJ though.

Just got my preassignment for tomorrow and it’s 14 mi’s to pickup and 33 miles to relay Through this Chicago traffic , plus its hazmat so it’s almost as fun as That Atlanta run.

I hear you. Im not telling you to rush anywhere.. 1st rule of trucking is protect your life and your license. All i was saying is the hazmat call is a schneider thing and isnt DOT mandated. All im saying is that They more than understand if you dont want to wait around 45 mins to complete a call that isnt DOT mandated. The call is just to idiot proof a hazmat run and make sure the driver does everything correctly. Some guys have trouble finding the correct page in the ERG, making sure they have correct placards on all 4 sides, making sure their BOL is correct and up to date inspections on the trailer i guess.i was just suggesting to make the call, if it takes to long, just hang up and call again when it's convenient for you while still on the load. I just noticed while being with the company that they try to idiot proof certain things and if you show that you did certain things out of order they are more than understanding

I don’t think you ever really need to make a check call unless you don’t know what states not to bypass scales and what section of the Erg to put your paperwork in. I rarely make any call on short runs.

Had a real fun day today... Was scheduled for hometime today. Woke up to a phone call which hung up before I came to my senses then a message explaining that I was getting a new dbl.. (my 3rd in 6 months) Then another phone call about 15mins telling me to move my d##n truck because they’re fixing the bobtail lot in Gary and that the new dbl wanted to meet me. Got up took my shower and headed into the office where someone complained about my short sleeve shirt like I was on duty. Then was hit with a “do me a favor ...load”...
Assignment was 120 miles total. And was supposed to be delivered at 0800. I got it at 0900. Took me an hour and a half to get to the trailers 30 miles away. Took me another hour and a half to get there. Arrived and since the appointment was a 0800 and it was 1200 there was another truck being unloaded. Also this is a tiny hole in the wall spot on a street that says local traffic only/no turnaround.. another hour goes by and the other truck gets finished...back in and the guys say alright gimme a half hour to get the totes setup. So I hook up all the intermodal stuff. (Intermodals are always fun.)After he set up the totes the guy was like can you get the trailer perpendicular(pretty much jackknife cause they have a pile of rocks covering half their lot. Then says alright pressurize it to 20 psi I’ll be back going to get some lunch I’ll be back and it should be to 20 psi. I asked did he hook up his hose, and was told the other worker would in minute. Told the guy you have to open the internal and open the air up top.... so I open the internal climb up top and start the compressor. Here’s where things go wrong 1. He closed the air up top thinking it would cause the air to escape(don’t ask I don’t know why) he said I’m the only driver to do it like this called in to confirm. opened up the everything he had his hose ready and the compressor starts smoking.... then drops all pressure... Freaking compressor went out. Made a phone call and was trying to figure out arrangements to relay the trailer. Got marching orders to park it in Gary... 76 miles away... np til Chicago traffic said hold my beer. Took 294 to 80/94 left with about 8hours exactly on my clock (home is a relay, a drive to the Chicago wash30 miles) and 280 miles to mich) I got to Gary for the relay with about 3 hours on my clock. So about 15 mph the whole way. Said forget picking up the empty that can wait till the morning. I guess we’ll be trying the hometime thing again tomorrow

    Cont..

So I got woke up at about 6 by maintenance d##n near kicking my door in to tell me that my truck had a pm scheduled for today..(after setting a date of the 13th with my dbl the day before) and any work order on your truck they won’t let you leave the Gary yard. So I was all set to go found out that it had work orders it’s the weekend and it’s 6 in the morning talk about a GG. Talked to the shop advisor got it pushed back til after the Tah, as if that wasn’t stressful got to the wash and the trailer didn’t have a washout slip and they were closed
