I don’t need to add in anything about the turn itself as there is excellent advice here. But if you have to stop suddenly in the turn due to yielding to a car or pedestrian and you’re in 5th or 6th gear then it’s ok to quickly put it neutral and come to a complete stop and then put in 2nd or 3rd to get going again. (If empty then 3rd would be good).
It can be hard for a newbie to downshift into 2nd or 3rd before you stop with all the things you got to watch during a turn.. I believe you can’t go more than the length of your tractor trailer out of gear (Neutral),
So, again, if a car is coming and you need to stop and are afraid to stall trying to get down to 2nd or 3rd beforehand; then just clutch into neutral and brake to stop and then put it into your “Go” gear.

Hey all,
First of all, thank you so much for all your help. I got my CDL yesterday. Yippie... Now help me find a great job. I want good training and of course with good pay but a great training is a higher priority for me. My aspiration is to get good and become an owner-operator as soon as I know what I am doing. I can't believe it I am a trucker now. When I passed my test I was so excited I was shaking in joy for a good hour
I am in Dallas area. I have a clean MVR and clean background.
Tx Countryboy, Just passing by and TripleSix Thank this. -
Find a company that you can learn to Flatbed or pull tankers , even Reefers. Any one can pull a box , you want to be versatile and have options .
DillonJ Thanks this. -
@danny23tx You know I have thought about joining McElroy. But the thing about flatbed is too much manual labor and it is seasonal. I can call the recruiter on Monday and join them. They are expanding too. I hear they have a good training program and it is regional I am home on weekends. Love to hear your thoughts on that.

Flatbed is seasonal?! No one ever told me that! So when can start my vacation?
Its still in the 90s here. Ive run all over this country with a flatbed behind me every month of the year. This is trucking, there's no seasonal, part time, kinda easy anything in this job.
And dont be scared of some manual labor Nancy. It's good for you.AModelCat, truckdriver31 and DillonJ Thank this. -
Like the above poster said dont be scared of manual labor . There are local jobs as well that hire new drivers but require labor if being home is a issue. When they say home weekends its typically just for a 34 hr reset and back on the road . Get your endorsements and learn all you can good luck.
DillonJ Thanks this. -
Lucky you.
Our instructors will get in deep caca if they even take us near a test route.
It’s bad enough that there’s been ongoing construction through every area where the railroad crossings are in town. -
@danny23tx I will look into local jobs that would be my preference. I applied for a few jobs already I have not had the time to study for my endorsements. But I can take the tests next week. That is easy enough. I also have a TWIC card appointment on 10-15 to get that taken care of too. But meanwhile, I am applying for jobs without endorsements.
Manual labor is not an issue for me, I am in great shape physically. I am merely picking you all's brain because of your input is priceless.
