In HR’s defense, I can understand where he’s coming from at least in one sense.

I have a co-worker that no matter what you’ve done, where you’ve been, or what you have, he has a story to top it. If you’ve climbed Mt. Everest in an hour, he’s either done it in a half hour or knows somebody that has. And then there’s always the bit about his millions in the bank because his wife is the President of one.

I finally had enough the day he started telling me about his post-1986 machine gun that he somehow bought “legally”.

I was born in the morning, but not THIS morning.

I vouch for you and your pay @LtlAnonymous. You do have a great job and employer. As you are aware I spent 10 years there and if I wasn’t so independent I would likely still be there. I am grateful for all of the trucking jobs I have had that generally paid above average for trucking wages. I didn’t pick those jobs to try and be better than anyone else, I picked them because I didn’t want an average job or check. I also don’t look down my nose at anyone who is making a fraction of what I make, especially when they are happy. Those who aren’t happy with their job/wages and have over the years asked me about a path to better wages, I have spent time doing my best to help them reach that goal. One may be surprised the difference a job doing nearly the exact same thing as someones current job, but provided an extra $40,000 or $50,000, pension and awesome health benefits can make to a guy with a stay at home wife and a house full of kids. There isn’t currently quite the swing in pay in most trucking jobs now due to nearly all companies having trouble filling the seats. What in the past were some of the lowest paid trucking jobs have out of necessity raised their pay drastically recently.
Pay is definitely not everything in picking a job, but each individual person gets to decide how important it is to them, none of us get to decide for them.

wisdom nugget! My little brother who is single with no kids is 22 and works at a t shirt print shop. He saved and bought a full solar power system and fridge/freezer for his 95’ 4Runner and wants to ship it all to hawaii to live there for a while out of his truck. He makes 13/hr but he’s got no bills and sometimes tries to pick up my tab. My other brother makes 1k a week in a really nice coffee shop and does reviews of software 10 hours a week. Saves about 7 hundred a week and is paying for his own school to become a therapist. Single with no kids, but always loves to see my babies. My dad is a millionaire who is god awful miserable who doesn’t give a **** about my family.

money is the means to do what you want, and nothing more. I want to have big bbq’s on 10 acres on the lake with loads of family, but you need money to get there. Money is the least important part of a person, that’s why I talk about it on here and not elsewhere.

We should include miles driven for the year.

I drove 126,168 at my company of which 117,656 were paid miles. Yeah they pay zip code miles or PC and they cheat me a little on that even. So with that and all bonuses for the year I made $61,404.

yeah I’m going to start looking. I run into drivers out there all the time to drive about the same or even a little less than me and they’re all making over 80,000.

Even at USA. And after six months they can literally pick their own loads from the company load board. Lol

We’re just about to close on a birth center and I told my cousin (me and him talk about business often) and first thing he says is now I can stop acting broke and that he won’t start telling me how hard it is to run a business. He’s never had a business to run and has his truck in a shop complaining that he “doesn’t want to use cash” to rebuild the truck but will just use a credit card. They just got into a 760k house.
I here even Walmart has top guys doing 120k+

That’s why the fedgov never includes food and energy in their inflation calcs

so some preening politicians can brag about inflation only being 6% when it was really 30%

201, LtlAnonymous and idriveaholden Thank this.

    True
But he’s talking about busting your hump when you’re young .

    that’s what I did .
Was making 50% above minimum wage , at a job where , every time we advertised an opening , we d have 300-500 applicants . In other words . For the area, it was a GOOD job.

saw an ad , was dumb enough to do a lease purchase , started earning in one week what it used to take me six weeks to earn.
Kept my same standard of living , even spent less because I stopped renting a place and lived in the truck . and was able to bank a lot of money.

There’s actually some good wisdom in the Bible .
“the borrower is slave to the lender “
Is one of those wise nuggets .
