Wow, that scares me.
There are certain bellwether industries that tell a lot about the economy. trucking is always been one of the great indicators of how the economy may be doing, no freight movement precedes a recession. We just posted a slightly negative quarter last quarter, another one and by definition we are in a recession. I hope it is just the time of the year, I am beginning to wonder if it is not more.
Sheriff looks like you will have to move on from Swift I have been watching the Truckingboards for years and all the large trucking companies like Swift lose most of there people for better pay after a year. some of them found better pay after six months. One thing for sure, If you never ask then you will never get a pay increase.
The start of my first year with Swift.

My observation over the years:
I have also read your miles/pay increase with time and experience as your dispatcher gets to know you better. New guys that ask to be home every two/three weeks get less miles, new guys that complain to much about anything get less miles. Guys that have never driven in snow or take to long getting through bad weather get less miles. basically your reputation of what your ability and work habits are decides how many miles you get. After three or six months that is not much time to build a reputation. the one constant I see the longer you stay out the more miles you get and the better your reputation. -

I hate terminals. I hate terminal "rats" even more, especially the ones who wear those "boy scout" shirts.

This is my update for today.
I'm sitting at a Super Kmart waiting to be unloaded. This is my second stop for the day. I had planned my day around the idea that, per the dispatch, I could deliver 1/2 early. NOT. The first stop wouldn't even look at the seals until exactly 0900, the stated delivery time. It took them nearly two hours to unload. I called ahead to this stop and asked if there was a place to park and wait. They said sure. I arrive 2.5 hours early, park and jump into the sleeper thinking I would be able to save some hours by doing a split sleeper. 1/2 hour before the delivery time I get a msg asking if I was at final. Yep, just waiting until the exact delivery time. I decided to ring the back door and see if I could at least dock. No one answered. I called and asked to the receiving supervisor. She had gone home for the day. Finally the store manager came on and said they would not open the dock up until 1500. So much for being 1/2 hour early. I thought I would speed things up by at least lining up with the one dock that didn't have anything piled in front of it. Bad call on my part. At 1505 they came out, cut the seals, and said I need to move over because the dock plate didn't work....uugh. Oh well. Just another day really. I'm trying to hurry so I can get my pickup my load in SLC and head for home. I hoped to maybe make it tonight. Not gonna happen.
That's it for now. -
