Well, I deadheaded from Feura Bush NY to Ottawa Il over Xmas and was paid $800..but I don't drive for Swift
Looking at the definition it basically states..moving a commercial vehicle without pay..BUT, it also states moving a empty commercial vehicle/trailer..
The only time I've not been compensated for deadheading is while being paid on percentage of what the load pays.
The start of my first year with Swift.

I personally know a guy that drives for swift and has had 3-4 log violations last year. Nothing was said to him about it.
-
Another day down and safely parked...Without any HOS violations I might add.
Got to Lewiston early and was able to get a hot shower and ask a few questions of some really helpful folks. Had a brief talk with the mechanic about a few issues. He wasn't worried about them and said there were just too many trucks ahead of me to work on it. As long as I'm running ok and everyone knows then I'm good with it.
I did find out that I will be getting talked to about the HOS violation, probably next week. Oh well, the only way to not screw up at all is to never do anything. A lesson learned.MikeCammer Thanks this. -
Sounds like you had a better day than yesterday. Mentor said he will be here about 9 tonight heading out tomorrow morning. Don't know where were off to yet but hope it's warm. The only bad part about that is I have all winter clothes. #### happens.

Sounds like you didn't have much of a choice with that whole flat tire and waiting fiasco.
I heard ya about the WD-40, will take that as advice. What other advice can you offer that you think was missed in your OTR training with the mentor? What could you have done differently, if anything, when that part was stuck? -
Get a pair of vice grips. Pull that handle out as far as you can, past the notch and lock it in place with your vice grips. Makes a world of difference. For me that is...

Key words "instructed him to deadhead"
Deadhead is unpaid at swift whether they know about it or not. I have been dead headed a couple hundred miles, and have also been dispatched empty a couple hundred miles. Two different animals.
basicaly, when they say you can deadhead, they are saying that you can move the truck and they will pay for fuel but they will not pay you for the miles. -
I did it. I finished my first week without killing anyone. I delivered my load in LV and I'm now on a reset. I looked at my first check and my first load was included on it. While I don't make very much at least it's something to send home to momma. I could be back overseas getting shot at instead of sitting in North Las Vegas wondering if I'll be shot at....hmmm, it might be a toss up.
I guess I could add a bit more...
So for my first week I drove just over 3000 miles that I'll paid for. There were some others as a result of HUA. I've never been lost...just confused for an hour or two. I had a total of five loads. I feel pretty fortunate as there a lot of trucks just sitting.
Ok, that's it for now.Last edited: Jan 6, 2013
