I guess you are getting rained on then. I am just around the corner from you and its been raining all day. Better than snow I guess and at least its been somewhat warm the last week.
Yeah, sometimes you get those challenging docks. That was the nice thing about running team. I would just boot my wife out the truck dial her phone number and she would guide me in. Actually when we first started we had a little rechargeable set of walkie-talkie's. She got mad at me one day and threw hers away because I used to make her take it into the reststops and such so that if something ever happened she could just hit the button and call me. Well, one time she went into the TA ladies can and was sitting down making pee pee and I yelled over the walkie talkie, "WHEW, I just dropped one hell of a stinker!"! I guess there were a few other ladies in the can that over heard the one-sided conversation of me acting like my wife! She was so friggin mad at me! It was funnier than hell! #### near pee'd my pants! Anyway that was the end of the walkie talkie's.
Where you delivering, publix or something? You so lucked out not having to wait the 10hrs! I used to feel so bad for the solo drivers that had to sit there for ten hours.

Ok Mr. Planner if I have to make a drop in the wee hours and one 4 hours later an early evening pickup isn't going to work. There is this pesky 14 rule don't ya know.

These HOS still make me dizzy -
Regarding the reading materials when you're in down time:
If you like sci-fi at all, you might check out the stuff that Baen books has for sale or free on their website.
For older reading material, check on Project Gutenberg for stuff that the copyright has expired on. There's even a mobile site for those of us using our web capable phones.
I've been working my way through a good few ebooks while I was deployed, or waiting on work while I was active in the military. (Apparently a great training ground for the trucking industry. I'm VERY well practiced at hurry up and wait!)
Thanks for sharing your solo experiences so far. Definitely educational and thought provoking for someone considering getting into the profession.Trilleth Thanks this. -

If you want to explore a bit, buy the monthly webscriptions that they offer. You get a few newer books, as well as a few older ones, all for ~$15-18.
Beyond those authors you mentioned, I found Sharon Lee and Steve Miller writing the Liad books to be fun, as well as Eric Flint, both when writing solo or partnered with one of the others.
For a bit more fantasy while set in a modern setting, William Mark Simmons writes a goofy vampire/werewolf tale set in modern day, where the lead character is a night owl radio host. If you enjoy a good bit of humor in your stories, it might be worth looking into that series.
Happy trucking!
