10 hours of dring in blowing snow. More than a few times in near to full white-out conditions

Almost ran into a truck who decided he couldn't see the lanes so he drove down the middlle in a white out. When did move over he went left. Lucky for him and us I wasn't driving all that fast.

To give him some credit. He did have very white RV in front of him, but he didn't want to pass it.

My EMS EVOC training kicked in.. quick downshift light pressure on the brakes and I avoided hitting either of them.

For those of you considering this profession, you need to consider if you can stomach 10 to 11 hours of driving in bad weather

I was coming north out of Idaho Falls one day. Just starting out too. There was about four inches on the road and it was coming down hard. I called my partner who was about a quarter mile behind and said I think we should get off the road, seeing as we could see nothing at all. He agreed so I hit the ramp at Dubois Id and told him. "I hope nothing is coming because I am not stopping" Well nothing was coming. We rolled into the lot of a restaurant/store there, where there were already a half dozen trucks stuck. Being Canadians and used to driving in the white stuff we went around them and parked. Upon going inside for coffee we learned that the road was closed about five miles farther north from where we were. Good timing. The restaurant even bought us drivers dinner. And stayed open for us. They usually closed early and Sundays too. We sat for two days there. My boss was pissed but the load was delivered intact.

There was another time on I5 coming into Canada at Surrey BC, it was dumping snow and there was a foot of it on the road. I called in and told them I was shutting down. Well, I let them talk me into keeping on. Ok...dumb. I crossed into Canada and went about five miles to the TransCanada At a set of lights, just before I turned onto highway 1, the four wheelers had slicked up the road badly. So I could not get moving again. Time to chain up. Well...I had just gotten my chains on, in the middle lane, and climbed into the cab, when I felt a hefty thump. I looked into my mirror and saw a car had rear ended me. He kind of slid sideways into my left corner of my trailer. I walked back and discovered that both occupants of the car were ok but the car was a write off. He had hit my trailer in such a way that he had knocked his rear axle all askew, and caved in the side as well. LOL I love British Columbia. The cars owner asked for my info. I said take the plate numbers girl. When she asked for my drivers license? I said "Girl. I don't know you, so I'm not telling you anything" And I left. She was out of province(state), had rear ended a 'parked' vehicle and was entirely on her own. It was entirely on her shoulders. I essentially had nothing to do with the whole affair. Later I called the gestapo and told them about it. They told me they didn't care and they didn't even go to accidents unless there were injuries. BC. Ya gotta love it!! :biggrin_25523:

Trainer decided to shutdown last night near toledo. He's been fighting a cold. :(

Had to get up and pee and discovered the ladies were quite busy last night in the rest area. Not all of them were ugly or I haven on the road to long. Hahahaha

I just did what I came to do and walked back to the truck..

Today is my anniversary... wish I wass home.

Trainer decided he need to catch his hours up to mine, so he's driving to our destination today. Me: well I am going to cook in the truck.. let you all know later what I am cooking and how.

    Happy New Year ya'll

thanks Lady K, but I am heading east to PA, then to Denver and weaving back to Conley to upgrade.

Besides I has some big time BBq friends in Sac. I'd be disowned as a bigtime BBQ'er if I didnMt stop to see them.. however, you'd be welcomed to join us. :)
