I'm having a rough time getting myself into the industry since completing a 192 hour CDL school in February. I lost a job of non dot regulated driving last August. Worked an odd job for about 30 days and decided to go through CDL training. I began the process in October and began training in December. Did very well on my road test and have Putin many apps. I am from Parkersburg WV and the state has been greatly effected by the oil and gas lay offs as many other areas have. I have put in more apps in the last 90 days than I can count. Small companies, large fleets and so far not even a call or bite for employment. What am I doing wrong? I'm really struggling to get back to work and get my employment record back on track. Any advice and experience will be greatly appreciated and I am willing and open minded to trying what worked for you. Thanks in advance for replying and helping a greenhorn get on the road.
The struggle

Just seems there is a huge influx of experienced oilfield drivers who are laid off and looking for work and wondering if that surge of more qualified drivers in the area is what is hindering me or the gap where I attended CDL school is screwing my app. Most companies aren't forthcoming as to why I'm not being considered either, just some polite ways of saying We don't want you but we aren't going to tell you why so you can remedy it either...

Halvor Lines has a flatbed division and uses automatics.
Most Abilene drivers seem content. Lots of long runs and 100% driver no-touch freight.Last edited: Apr 13, 2016
